The Language and the Style
The language of the present Agama is Präkrit. Here and there the usages of Saurseni are also found. In some instances the use of Desi words (vernacular) is also found, like khatta (C#), Dongar (7/117 TT), Tola (7/119 zla) Maggao (7/152 TTT), Bondi (3/112 alfa), Cikkhalla (8/357 faida
The expression of it is very lucid and sweet. Many topics have been dealt with in the style of fable narration. Reminiscences, anecdots and allegories are found through out the work. The difficult topics have been explained by citing aporopriate examples in many places.
The present Āgama has been written down in prose style. Somewhere the order is an independent discussion and sometimes it is an off-shoot of some incident. Some verse-part is also available in the form of collected Gāthas to compile the ascertainable topic.
1. In the twentieth Sataka of the sixth Uddesaka, the theory of the origin of
the earth, the water, and the air, has been expounded. According to one tradition, this is one Uddesaka, but the others hold it as comprised of three Uddesakas. According to this tradition, the Agama under review has 1925 Uddesakas in all.
