Like all monks, he was traveling barefoot and with a shaven head. He came to the house of a goldsmith. The goldsmith was well known in the city for his artwork. When Metärya came to the house, the goldsmith was making barley shaped grains of gold for jewelry. When he saw the monk at his door, he was very happy. He welcomed Metärya for alms.
