The original work 'Shradhapratikramana' was written by the Ganadharâs, the eleven foremost disciples of Lord Mahavira. The commentary thereon entitled "Vrandaruvritti" was written by Shree Devendra Suri, who was a disciple of Shreemat Jagadchandracharya, the founder of the order of 'Tapagacha'. He seems to be perhaps the only writer among the Jain priests, who has written commentaries in a simple language and with illustrative anecdotes. This is evident from his commentaries on 'Karma Grantha and Shradha Dinakritya'. In the commentary embodied in this volume, the object of persuading the Jain laity to acquire the habit of Vratta or observing religious regulations and to abstain from sinful ways is well kept in view.
