233. During paryusana, monks and nuns may move to and fro for a distance of five kosas all around in order to collect alms. But in case there is a perennial and deep river intervening within this bound, it is not proper to. move for the whole distance of five kośas. However, if the river be like Erāvati, which flows near the town of Kunala, a river which can be crossed by keeping one leg in the water and one leg out it, then it is quite proper for monks and nuns to move for a distance of five kosas all around; but not otherwise.
२३३. वर्षावास में रहे हुए निर्ग्रन्थ और निर्ग्रन्थिनियों को चारों ओर पांच कोस तक भिक्षाचर्या (गोचरी) के लिये जाना और वापिस आना कल्पता है। जहां नदी सर्वदा पानी से भरी हुई और सर्वदा प्रवाहमान हो वहां सभी तरफ पांच कोस तक भिक्षाचरी (गोचरी) के लिये जाना और वापिस पाना नहीं कल्पता है। ऐरावती नदी कुणाला नगरी में है। जहां एक पर पानी में रखकर चला जा सकता है और एक पैर पानी से बाहर रखकर चला जा सकता है वहां ऐसे स्थल पर चारों ओर पांच कोस तक भिक्षाचरी को जाना और वापिस पाना कल्पता है। किन्तु ऐसा शक्य नहीं है तो चारों ओर पांच कोस तक भिक्षाचरी के लिये जाना और पाना नहीं कल्पता है। २३४. वर्षावास में रहे हुए कितने ही श्रमणों को पूर्व में ही इस प्रकार कहा हुआ होता है कि, "हे भदन्त ! तुम देना" तो उन्हें इस प्रकार देना कल्पता है किन्तु स्वयं के लिये स्वीकार करना नहीं कल्पता। २३५. वर्षावास में रहे हुए कितने ही श्रमणों को प्रारम्भ में ही इस प्रकार कहा हुआ होता है कि, 'भदन्त! तुम लेना' तो उन्हें इस प्रकार लेना कल्पता है किन्तु दूसरों को देना नहीं कल्पता है।
234--236. During paryuşana, a monk may be instructed "Give Sir". He is then permitted to give as instructed, but it is not proper for him to accept for himself. Or, his instructions may be : "Accept Sir" in which case it would be proper for him to accept. But if his instructions are "Accept Sir,
