following their established custom, hailed him with sweet words, exclaiming : “Victory to the joyous one, victory to the gentle one; may it ever fare well with you.........Victory, Victory. This, too, occurred as with Bhagavān Mahavira.

जीतकल्पी देवों ने पाकर उनसे इष्ट यावत् हृदयालादक। गम्भीर वाणी से इस प्रकार कहा- "हे नन्द ! जय जय हो । हे भद्र ! जय जय हो । तुम्हारा कल्याण हो, यावत धर्मतीर्थ का प्रवर्तन करो।" इस प्रकार जय जय घोष करते हैं। १५३. पुरुषादानीय अहंद पार्श्व मनुष्य सम्बन्धी गृहस्थधर्म में प्रवेश करने से पूर्व भी सर्वोत्कृष्ट प्रत्यक्ष-ज्ञान के धारक थे। आगे का समग्र वर्णन पूर्ववरिणत महावीरचरित्र के समान हो समझना चाहिए। यावत् अभिनिष्क्रमण के समय याचकों को दान देकर, जब हेमन्त ऋतु का दूसरा महीना, तीसरा पक्ष, पौष कृष्ण चल रहा था। तब उस पौष कृष्ण एकादशी के दिन पूर्वाह्न समय में, विशाला नामक शिविका में बैठकर, देव, मनुज और असुरों के समूह के साथ, आगे का समस्त वर्णन महावीर वर्णन के समान समझना चाहिए। विशेष बात यह है। कि वाराणसी नगरी के बीचों-बीच होकर निकलते हैं। निकल कर जहां आश्रमपद नामक उद्यान है, जहां श्रेष्ठ अशोक का वृक्ष है, वहां पाते हैं। वहां आकर उत्तम अशोक वृक्ष के नीचे शिविका रखी जाती है। शिविका रखने पर भगवान् पार्श्व स्वयमेव पाभरण, माला, अलंकार आदि उतारते हैं। प्राभरणादि
153. Arhat Pārsva, the Chosen One, was endowed with the gift of a supreme, unerting, omniscient, intuitive vision, even before he became a householder. He renounced all his possessions and gave them away as gifts. Then in the second month of winter, the month of Pausa, during the third fortnight of that season, a dark fortnight, on the eleventh day of that fortnight, Arhat Pārsva left his home in a litter which was called Višali. Surrounded by men, gods and demons, he journcyed through the town of Vārāṇasī, and arriving at the park called Aśramapada, he came to a great asoka tree where his litter was put down. He stepped down his litter, shed all his finery, his garlands and his ornaments.
