कहने का अभिप्राय यह कि जो परिणाम किसी एक जीवके प्रथम समयमें हो सकता है, वही परिणाम किसी दूसरे जीवके दूसरे समयमें, तीसरे जीवके तीसरे समयमें और चौथे जीवके चौथे समयमें हो सकता है। इस प्रकार उपरितन समपवर्ती जीवोंके परिणाम अधस्तन समयवर्ती जीवोंके परिणामोंके साथ सदृशता रखते हुए अधःप्रवृत्त कर गके कालमें पाये जाते हैं। यद्यपि इस करणके मांडनेवाले प्रत्येक जीवके परिणाम आगे आगे के समयोंमें उत्तरोत्तर अनन्तगणी विशद्धिको लिए हुए ही होते हैं, तथापि उसके साथ उन्हीं समयोंमें वर्तमान अन्य जीवोंके परिणाम कदाचित् सदृश भी हो सकते हैं और कदाचित् विसदृश भी हो सकते हैं। यही बात उसके पीछे इस करणके मांडनेवाले जीवोंके परिणामों के विषयमें जानना चाहिए । अधःकरण परिणामका काल समाप्त होते ही सातिशय अप्रमत्तसंयतगुणस्थानका काल समाप्त हो जाता है और वह जीव आठवें गुणस्थानमें प्रवेश करता है।
यहां यह ज्ञातव्य है कि आगेके पांच गुणस्थान दो श्रेणियोंमें विभक्त हैं- एक उपशमश्रेणी और दूसरी क्षपकश्रेणी । जो जीव मोहनीयकर्मके उपशमनके लिए उद्यत होता है, वह उपशमश्रेणीपर चढ़ता है और जो कर्मोके क्षय करनेके लिए उद्यत होता है, वह क्षपक श्रेणीपर चढ़ता है । उपशमश्रेणीके चार गुणस्थान हैं- आठवां, नवां, दशवां और ग्यारहवां । क्षपकश्रेणीके भी चार गुणस्थान हैं- आठवां, नववां, दशवां और बारहवां । इन दोनों ही श्रेणियोंका जघन्य और उत्कृष्ट काल अन्तर्मुहूर्त है । तथा प्रत्येक श्रेणीके प्रत्येक गुणस्थानका कालभी अन्तर्मुहूर्त है । आगे दोनों ही श्रेणियोंके गुणस्थानोंका एक साथ ही वर्णन किया जायगा । यहीं एक बात और भी जानने के योग्य है कि वेदकसम्यक्त्व सातवेंसे आगे के गुणस्थानोंमें नहीं होता है । अतः जो भी जीव ऊपर चढ़ना चाहता है, उसका द्वितीयोपशमसम्यक्त्व या क्षायिकसम्यक्त्वको यहीं धारण करना आवश्यक है। क्षायिकसम्यक्त्वी जीव तो दोनोंही श्रेणीयोंपर चढ़ सकता है, किन्तु द्वितीयोपशम सम्यक्त्वी केवल उपशमश्रेणीपर ही चढ़ता है ।
८ अपूर्वकरणसंयतगुणस्थान - अधःप्रवृत्तकरणके कालमें वर्तमान जीव किसीभी कर्मका उपशम या क्षय नहीं करता है, किन्तु प्रतिसमय अनन्तगुणी विशुद्धिसे बढ़ता रहता है। आठवें गुणस्थानमें प्रवेश करतेही अधःकरणकी अपेक्षा उसके परिणामोंकी विशुद्धि और भी अनन्तगुणी हो जाती है। इस प्रकारकी विशुद्धिवाले परिणाम इसके पूर्व कभी नहीं प्राप्त हुए थे, इस लिए इन्हें अपूर्वकरण ( परिणाम ) कहते हैं। जिसप्रकार अधःकरणमें भिन्न समयवर्ती जीवोंके परिणाम सदृश और विसदृश दोनोंही प्रकारके होते हैं, वैसा अपूर्वकरणमें नहीं है । किन्तु यहांपर भिन्न समयवर्ती जीवोंके परिणाम अपूर्व ही अपूर्व होते हैं, अर्थात् विसदृश ही होते हैं, सदृश नहीं होते । इस गुणस्थानमें प्रवेश करने के प्रथम समयसे ही चार कार्य प्रत्येक जीवके प्रारम्भ हो जाते हैं१ गुणश्रेणीनिर्जरा, २ गुणसंक्रमण, ३ स्थितिकांडकघात और ४ अनुभागकांडकघात । प्रतिसमय

There are also four quality-states in the diminishing category - the eighth, ninth, tenth, and twelfth. The least and the most time of both these categories is an inter-moment. And the time of each quality-state of each category is also an inter-moment. Further, the quality-states of both categories will be described together. One more thing worth knowing is that the perfect knowledge of the Vedas does not occur in the quality-states beyond the seventh. Therefore, it is necessary for any being who wants to ascend to hold the second subsidence perfect knowledge or the diminishing perfect knowledge here. 8. The Unprecedented Cause Restrained Quality-State - In the time of the descending cause, the present being does not subside or destroy any karma, but it increases with infinite purity every moment. Upon entering the eighth quality-state, the purity of its results becomes even more infinitely pure than the inferior cause. Such pure results were never obtained before, hence they are called unprecedented cause (results). Just as the results of different co-existent beings in the inferior cause are both similar and dissimilar, it is not so in the unprecedented cause. But here, the results of different co-existent beings are unprecedented, that is, they are dissimilar, not similar. From the first time of entering this quality-state, four actions begin for each being: 1. Quality-series-decay, 2. Quality-transition, 3. Position-section-destruction, and 4.
