। श्री दिगम्बर दास जैन, एडवोकेट, सहारनपुर बौद्ध ग्रन्थों के आधार पर
है कि वे बौद्ध ग्रन्थो का ऐतिहासिक रूप अस्वीकार करते ____ मौर्य सम्राट अशोक (२३२-२७१ ई० पू०) को कुछ है। प्रो० डेविड भी बौद्ध ग्रन्थो के ऐतिहासिक प्रौर विद्वान बौद्ध ग्रन्थो के आधार पर बौद्ध धर्मी समझते है, धार्मिक कथन को महत्व मही देते। डा० कर्न बौद्ध परन्तु प्रसिद्ध बौद्ध इतिहासकार डा० विन्सेन्ट स्मिथ बौद्ध ग्रन्थो से तत्व की बात निकाल कर असुरक्षित स्वीकार प्रन्थो को शेखचिल्ली की कहानियो से अधिक महत्व नहीं करते है और कहते है कि अशोक की राजनीति बौद्ध तत्य देते और कहते है कि उनका कोई ऐतिहासिक महत्व नहीं प्रकट नहीं करती। मि० हैराम का कथन है कि बौद्ध है। प्रो०भण्डारकर बौद्ध कथाग्री को सच्चाई के विरुद्ध और साहित्य ने बहन से विद्वानों को धोखे में रखा और बौद्ध विपरीत कथन पाते है और उनका ऐतिहासिक सत्य स्वीकार ग्रन्थो का यह कहना कि महाराज अशोक म. बद्ध का नहीं करते। प्रो० प्रार० के० मकर्जी बौद्ध ग्रन्थों के एक शिष्य था, बिल्कुल विश्वास योग्य नहीं' । स्वय बौद्ध ग्रन्थ वर्णन को दूसरे से अनेक स्थानो पर इतना विपरीत पाते (समानता प्रसादिका] (१४४४५) से स्पष्ट वर्णन है कि

Buddhist Chronicles of 4th, 5th & 6th centuries have deceived many a scholar. To count so greal monarch as Ashoka among the disciple of Gautama was unquestionably a distioct advantage to the declining Buddhist monarchism. Hence their statement is not reliable at all.
