"I express my deep gratitude for your kind words in appreciation of my literary work, which do not deserye praise. I have merely tried to clear up the false notions and to explain the real meaning of the Jain essence and in that I do not know how far I have succeeded. I am not a stranger here as I was in India in 1873. I had been on the tour to Rajputana with Dr. Buhler the great Sanskrit scholar. Things were different then. Now I have been struck with extraordinary change that has taken place and I realise what Pax Britannica means. At that time we could explore the famous Jain Bandar at Jesalmere and get a number of Jain manuscripts which are now stored in the Deccan College Library and several libraries of Europe. Besides we visited famous Jain temples and saw much of Jainism. On my return to Germany I determined to explore Jain religion. As an obstinate opponent I had to fight with other oriental scholars against their theories as to origin and development of Jainism. By convincing arguments I prove that Jainism was not an off shoot of Budhism but quite independent of it and much older than that. In course of that I shall be able to prove that not only that Jainism is ancient and independent religion but it is one of the gruat religions of thc world. It is left to you, Jains to supply me and my pupils with your sacred Sutras and other works as you should well know, inore the light of Jainism shines, more the benefit will be derived. I have incited many workers and try pupils to embark upon the exploration or rather description of the Jain religion in its true perspective. I in the end once more express feelings or gratitude and extreme satisfaction for the fact that my humble work has been appreciated by those whom it was meant Lastly His Holiness Shri Vallabh Vijayaji while summing up exorted the audience to at once pick up the offer made by Dr. Jacobi and to form a committee to carry it into effect and also to have Jain religion series, Prakrit Dictionary, Jain History, compiled and the various false notions about . ain religion amongst the western scholars cleared up at the hands of such Savaunts like Dr. Jacobi and his worthy pupils.
