________________ 382] 'ora Birkeret 3763. [ cârsta joining his two lips together, and the test of kno-ving this was that he should apply-sindura (red lead) on the lower lip and speak when the upper lip should not be coloured with the sindura. In the morning the sermon proceeded and the Brahmin pandits came. They read the verse and the remarks on the door of the upashruya and when they knew, they were unable to speak in accordance with the condition, they went away. The serion went on without any hitch and Shravaks were pleased. Subsequently Yashovijayaji, when asked by the Brahmins to speak his verse according to his condition, was able to do, so as he was used to it. Though tlie matter would have ended here, Yashovijayaji said he was ready to make regular debates. The Brahmin pandits showed their great willingness. The conditions were these that if he could be defeated, he would embrace the faith of the Brahını- - ins, and if they would be defeated, 500 of them would be convert's to Jainism. All these were transcribed on a copper plate in the state-assembly. The debate commenced and at the instance of the Brahmins, Yashovijay bad to open the debate by showing his furva-pakshha: He took three days in going with the same in Sanskrit with logical arguments, but the said furra-pakshha would not finish, and would not seem to finish in a short time. The Brahmins were disappointed and knew that the opener of the debate appeared to be a master mind too learned to be over-come They requested him to put a stop to his debate, and declared themselves vanquished . 500 Brahmins by this were converted to the Jainism. (It is said that the afore-said copper - plate is still in some üpashraya, temple or Bhandar in Cambay:)
