was to fall upon their shoulders. This is certainly an event mostsatisfactory and delighting that this year we all meet on a common platform for common interests and it reflects a sense and feelings of unity that are being widely spread among the enlightened members of the community. In general management too, as far as I am told the work has proceeded very smoothly and with alacrity and joy. My friend Mr. Ankle has already depicted to you, aims and objects of such gatherings and so it is not necessary for me of dwell upon them at length.
It is indeed a matter of great pleasure to see that though. our sub-sects are spending thousands of rupees in litigations against one another and though there are many differences of opinion regarding the union of the three sects into one whole community, yet a train of thoughts is at present being entertained in the young brains that at a time when throughout whole India, a cry for union is passing over at least in matters social and political and in religion (only where we can join hands without any difficulties) all the members of our sub-sects should mix freely with another and interchange their ideas with toleration and it is with the objects of encouraging and spreading these ideas of unity and co-operation that still gatherings are held. We know that we are sometimes misunderstood by a few of our rich brothren, still however, we hope our efforts are and will be fully directed to expound and carry out these noble objects to the utmost of our abilities and from the experince of last two years and in the fact of receiving munificent donations and co-operation on the part of the rich and the brother-graduates to such gatherings, we can fairly and unquestionably believe that there will be no hindrances to holding such popular and useful gatherings every year in future, provided our students do not shake their responsibilities which, I am fully conscious, they have high notions about; but now a question arises about what steps be taken to make the Jain
