I have been entrusted with the duty of laying before you the report of the Jain Students' brotherhood, the statement of accounts of the 1st Jain Students? Social Gathering and the preliminary affairs that led to this meeting owing to the absence of Mr. Mohanlal D. Desai the General Secretary. After having discharged this function I will of my own accord add my ow11 tlioughts and a few practical suggestions in conection with tlie maintenance and permanence of these both useful and important institutions.
You are fully aware, I hope, that the Jain Students' Brotherhood was founded last year at the 1st Jain Students' Social Gathering and for the same Mr. M. D. Desai was appointed Provisional Secretary. The Secretary commenced his work by asking the students of all the three Sects to elect four members from each for the Managing Committee and this was immediately executed. Then Mr. Desai called two or three meetings of the same M. C. during which the rules and the constitution for it were framed and settled. Afterwards he requested a large number of Jain Graduates and others to prepare papers and essays on various Jain themes but only two came forward with their papers which were read in 2nd term of the last year in the Hall of Mangrol Jain Sabha. One of these was on · Occult Biology' read by myself and the other on “The Life of Shri Yashovijayji' read by Mr. Desai M. D. Both of these occasions were presided over by Mr. M. G. Kapadia Solicitor who adorns the presidential chiar to-day. These papers and the rules of the constitution require to be printed but for the want of funds, their printing has been delayed.
