OUR BUILDINGS.
All our public buildings are as a rule looked after by the Sheths-one, two or even more, who are mostly business men-men of wealth and position in a particular society-as headmen are supposed to be responsible for their maintenance and management. All repairs, additions and alterations to suit the present day needs are done under their control--of course more or less guided by the head workman. We spare little when we have got to spend more. This can be explained thus. Number of our temples demanding urgent repairs and maintenance is large and is increasing. We have got to erect buildings for many a public institutions. Our existing buildings need much to bring them up to the present standard of sanitation and requirements. This all means demand for money. On the other hand, men of wealth-men like Sheth Pethad, Vastupal, Tejpal and many others - are no more amongst us. Even this day we find many a building--private as well as public-erected centuries and decades back in a thoroughly substaus
