To,
His Highness the Maharaja Dhiraj Shrimant Shri Sayaji Rao Gaekwar Sena Khaskhel Shamsher
Bahadur of Baroda. May It Please Your Highness,
We, the members of the Jain Sangha, residing in Pattan, most respectfully beg to approach Your Highuess with the following prayer, hoping confidently to meet with a gracious and fovourable consideration.
We humbly beg to kindly bring to Your Highness' notice that some three years ago the Jain Community, resident in whole India, founded an Association styled the Jain Conference with the object of promoting and introducing social, religious and educational reforms and progress among themselves.
We again take leave to humbly inform Your Highness that the same Conference was held last year in Your Highness' own capital. Baroda, when many important and weighty resolutions were passed regarding the above questions.
It is only but natural that a movement of this kind should be highly pleasing and grateful to an angust and learned ruler who has at heart the advancement not only of his own subjects but of all the natives of India.
We learnt it with the greatest pleasure that Your Highness graciously condescended to grace the deliberations of the Conference at Baroda and offered valuable and weighty suggestions on the occasion.
Your Highness is probably aware that the 4th annual meeting of the Conference is to be held on and from the 25th of February in the historic City of Pattan in Your Highness' own territory. As a preliminary measure we have set op foot a subscription for the purpose and we hope independently to meet all the expenses from the fund so raised.
It would be no exaggeration to state here that the Pattan Jain Sangha made itself bold to invite the Conference to this city this year simply counting upon the support and co-operation of a father-like and zeolous Prince like Your Highness.
Your Highness will be surely gratified at seeing your subjects working out the problem of their own regeneration and will be highly stimulated in their ellorts by your kind sympathy and able co-operation.
