THE EDITOR, JAIN S. CONFERENCE HERALD. DEAR BROTHER,
Will you kindly publish the following letter in your işsue and oblige:
I read with great interest the article on "The necessity of a Jain College" in March number. I agree with the opinion therein expressed about it. I am clearly of opinion that no sound religious education is possible for a Jain youth unless he is trained up in our religion in a College hostel.. I should, therefore, advocate a Central Jain College for the whole of India,. with residential quarters and a Jain temple, like the College at Cambridge and Oxford. I should suggest that the opinion of all the Jain graduates of India may be taken in writing on this matter and if a large majority of them agree that for the religious as well as secular welfare of the Jain Community, a Jain College is a necessity, the matter should be put before the next Conference, and the Conference ought to do all it can, to put the scheme into execution. I hope, our community will allow-as every community does-that its educated members are the brain of the community and therefore it must be prepared to listen to their views. If this method 1s followed, I have no doubt the Conference will be able to do a much greater good to the Jain community of India than it will otherwise.
If the majority of Jain graduates approve of the idea of the Central Jain College with residential quarters and a Jain temple for the whole of India, a representative committee of the Jain community may be appointed to submit their recommendations to the next Conference.
Yours fraternally, DEOCHAND UTTAMCHAND PAREKH, M. A. (Cantab.), F. R. E. S.
