________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir The mysterious elements in the Tantra were not properly understood. Contrary to orthodox religion it allowed everybody including the lower-caste people and the women to participate in its rituals which being a protest against the Brahmanical religion was not accepted easily by orthodox people. Since Tantra was sadhana of dehatattva and stress the importance of the body of the being and again since human beings are very much prone to sexual intercourse and other enjoyable elements like eating flesh and fish, Tantra allows its sādhaka to enjoy all sensual pleasures. The most important thing of this part is that this attitude of Tantra was responsible for both its popularity as well as its degeneration leading to misunderstanding and contempt. Like the brāhmaṇas of the Vedic times the initiated persons of the Tantric religion preserved their system in a small circle and tried to popularize it without loosing their monopoly. Lastly, at one time the Tantric practitioners became more greedy to attain power. So they cared more for the practices than for the spiritual aspects of Tantra. They tried to influence people with the help of their powers. This created awe and misconception among the masses about Tantra which, in course of time, was misunderstood as the root of mischievious deeds. Proper Concept : Tantra contains highly philosophical matters. Sri Aurobindo thinks Tantra as "a part of the bequest of the ancient wisdom of the Veda." It is a practice of Inner Culture of an individual. The occultism of Tantra helps a sādhaka to communicate with the god. As stated earlier that Tantra is the sādhana of Kulakundalini yoga. The Kulakundalini is perceived as a serpent which is also conceived as the female energy (sakti) lying in the mulādhāra cakra of the being. This dormant energy is awakened by the sādhaka with yogic exercises and is made to travel through five cakras to the sahasrāra. This method is called "the expansion of consciousness and hightening of realization." These cakras are actually different planes of the being and the Tantra locates these as the points of concentration. The Sakti or the potential power meets the Divine Lord or Siva in the crown of the head (sahasrāra) and the sādhaka attains salvation. The Tantric worshipper identifies himself with the deity worshipped by him i.e. the sadhaka when attains salvation becomes Siva. The most important feature of Tantra is that its purpose is not liberation alone. Tantra includes enjoyment of life in this earthly manifestation of the Divine. Therefore, Tantra includes both enjoyment (bhukti) and liberation (mukti) in this world. The Tantra regards human body as the best means of getting liberation. Our body contains such a power that if it can be used properly by the sādhaka, the sādhaka can reach his goal easily. In Tantra the body has been considered as a representative of the Universe. The great goddess is present in the cosmos as the conscious Energy and the same goddess is present in the body as the Kundalini sakti. In order to raise the sakti As sulas – 1b4-7-264, 200% O ?
