No. IV | RULES FOR ASCETICS IN JAINIŠM, BUDDHISM & HINDUISM.
"Plāsuyamāggena divā jugāntarappehinā sakājjena. Jantunā pariharanteniriyāsamidi have gamanam."
MULACHARA. 2. Bhāsā. A Yati should refrain from finding fault with, or ridiculing others. He should not praise his own acts, and should not engage in harsh talk or undesirable gossip.
“Pesunnahāsa kakkasa paranindā ppappa samsa bikahadi. Vajjittā sa parahiyam bhāsāsamidi have kabanam.".
MULACHĀRA. 3. Esanā. A Yati should eat pure food free from forty-six kinds of faults. He should eat only to appease hunger, being indifferent whether the food be hot or cold.
“Chhadaladosasuddham karanajuttam visuddhanavakodi. Sidadisamabhutte parisuddha esanāsamidi."
MULACHARA. 4. Adānaniksepa. This consists of careful handling of materials such as books, brush of peacock-feathers, water-pot etc.
* Nanubahi samjamuvahim sauchuvabim annamappa
muvabm vā. Payadam gahanikseve samidi adānapiksepa.”
MULACLARA. 5. Pratisthāpanika. This is easing oneself in a placo solitary and hidden from the eyes of men, and which is not prohibited from being used for such a purpose, which is at a distance from villages and residences of people, and where there are no holes (where insects etc. may live.)
“Egante achchitte dure gudhe visalamabirohe. Uchcharadichohao padithavaniya bave samidi."
MULACHARA. In the rules for Vedic ascetics we also find the same enjoined. In Gautama III. 17 and 18 we find “ Abandoning all desire for sweet food.” “He shall restrain his speech, his eyes and his actions." "In Baudhāyana 2, 3,20 we find “Let him not make empty, ill-sounding, or harsh speeches."
