COMMITTEE NEWS Manoj Dharamsi, Associate Editor
enforcing it; to seek and enhance legislative support for animal rights and vegetarian causes; etc.
Information packages which were developed for the Vegetarian Fair in San Diego in October 1993, will be made available for distribution to anyone interested in similar activities.
Also, the script of the related seminar at Pittsburgh Convention, "Ahimsa in Daily Life", will soon be ready for publication and distribution. A sponsor (or some sponsors) will be needed to pay approximately $3,000 for this project. If you feel like helping, please call Narendra Sheth.
We will set up some small exhibitions with a few posters and a table of handouts to give to interested people in and around the Jain community. We will also offer the centers to buy books and videos on these subjects for their libraries. We are preparing a list of all such reference material that each Jain Center should consider buying.
We will like each Jain Center to provide a small budget for such projects, in the range of $100 to $1,000 for this year, depending upon the size of the Center Many of our center assets, now a days, run into several hundred thousand dollars, so relatively this is a small amount to ask for. Considering the fact that animal compassion and vegetarianism is a very fundamental principle of Jainism, and that we have done practically nothing for it until now in America, even though we have been here for over two decades, this is only a modest request.

MAHAVIR JAYANTI & THE GREAT AMERICAN
MEATOUT DAY Farm Animals Reform Movement will celebrate The Great American Meatout Day on first day of spring. We will join the, in our own way. For us, the closest big Jain event to that is Mahavir Jayanti. It will be celebrated in April by most of the Jain Centers. Many Jains will come out to the temples.
