अप्रैल-२०१६ Jaina sculptures of Ellorā to a great extent seem to have been inspired and guided by the Adipurāņa and Pārsvābhyudaya of Jinasena and Uttarapurāņa of Guņabhadra written in 9th-10th century CE during the reign of Rāshtrakûţa ruler Amoghavarsha and Krishna II. The representations of the tapas of Bāhubalī in kāyotsarga with entwining creepers and flanking Vidyādharīs, and of unshaken Pārsvanātha experiencing the upasargas at Ellorā concur with the descriptions of above texts. The comparison of textual data with actual examples in Ellorā Jaina caves brings out interesting historical conclusions about the renderings of spiritual and material world simultaneously with greater emphasis on spirituality (Sānta-rasa).
