be deviated from his determination by seeing the killing of his son. Imbrahima very courageously and religiously did all according to his son's advice. But as soon as he raised his hands to kill his son, an angel of Khuda (Farista) arrived there and by catching his hands said not to do so, because Khuda was very much pleased, having known his intention. He advised him to offer a sheep only. Since that time offering an animal to Khuda has been in practice as Kurbānī in Islam. According to the rule prescribed for Kurbānī, the animal to be offered should be tamed with love and affection in the family of the person who wants to perform Kurbānī, so that all family members may feal attached with that animal. But generally people buy some goat or sheep from the market and offer that to Khuda at the time of Kubānī. In Christianity also Kurbānī was in practice but after the sacrifice Isamasïha made, the performance of sacrifice was considered to be completed and since then the Christians left the Kurbānī performance.
In the vedic tradition, according to the rules assigned for sacrifice, the animal which is slaughtered on the altar goes to heaven but there is nothing like this in Christianity and Islam. In these religions all beings, except human being, have been created with a view to being used by the human beings so they are used by them without thinking about their decay and development. The followers of Islam, for proving the religious and social value of Kurbānī, argue that the money earned by selling the skins of animals butchered on the eve of Kurbani, is given as charity to poor people.
Though, both Hinduism and Islam claim their Sacrifice and Kurbānī respectively as religious performances, a very simple question remains unsolved -
If killing some being is religious, what can be known as irreligious? So from the view point of Non-Violence, neither Sacrifice nor Kurbānī may be considered as religious activity.
