form and subject- matter. These two omissions, alongwith that of 'Na' in gatha No. 10, and 66, in all probability, appear to be printing mistakes (App. C).
In case of two gathas- No. 101 and 108, the whole of the second line, requires replacement. These replacements not only adjust the measures but are essential also. (App. DJ
During the course of comparison of Niryukti gathas with their counterparts, certain significant and interesting points draw our attention. Which are as follows
As referred to above, the găthā No. 82 of Daśāśrutaskandha Niryukti is the combination of two gāthās of Nisitha Sutra Bhäsya. The first quarter of the first line of gatha No. 82, resembles the respective quarter of gatha No. 3169 of the latter, while its (82) remaining three quarters coincide the corresponding portion of next gatha i.e. 3170. Again at the place of some specific words, different words occur in various counterpart or counterparts of a gatha but the adjustment of matras is in such a way that verse--form remainsintact. For example samvigga> Saccitta and Niddao Bhavissai> Hohimti Ņiddhammo, occurred in 86 of Niryukti gäthä and its counterpart 3174 of N. Bhāsya gatha may be cited. [App. F
The key word or words allude parable, on good effect of victory over passions etc. The name of the characters vary in some cases, but here again, the adjustment of maträ is in such a way that composition of gatha remains unchanged. For example Campākumāranandi (93)> Campā Añamgaseno, (3182) and Vanidhūyāccamkāriya (104)>Dhanadhūyamaccamkäriya>(3194) may be cited. (App. G]
Before summing up this paper, an analysis of a gathä out of those with correct measure in status quo, in the light of its parallels. will be in order. For example Gāthā No. 3 of this Niryukti may be taken. I have been able to find out its parallels in Sthånăng, Daśavaikālika Niryukti, Tandulavaicārika, Nisīthasūtra Bhasva and Sthānanga Abhaya devavștti. Checking of the verse form of these
