________________ Kamalasila's Nyayabindupurvapaksesamksipta, the first chapter (Pratyaksa), Tibetan text and Japanese translation with notes Hiromasa Tosaki This is a critical edition of the first chapter of the Nyayabindupurvapaksesamksipta (NBPS), which is extant only in Tibetan translation, and a Japanese translation with notes. NBPS is a compilation of the opponent views against which the Nyayabindu was written. The author is Kamalasila according to the colophon of the text. It is supported by the fact that NBPS is, as I show in my notes, closely connected in contents with the Tattvasamgrahapanjika (TSP) which is unanimously admitted to be his work. Moreover it may be said that Kamalasila wrote it after having studied the Tattvasamgraha (TS), the work of his teacher Santaraksita, and written TSP, the commentary on it. The following is an instance which may show it. In TS, 1692--1700, it is discussed if yukti (reasoning), anu palabdhi (non-perception), sambhava (probability) and aitihya (tradition) and pratibha (intuition) are means of right cognition; and these are, in the just same order, mentioned by name in NBPS as the means of right cognition maintained by others such as Caraka. From this it may be inferred that Kamalasila, having studied TS and probably written TSP, made use of TS in his composition of NBPS.
