जीव चतुर्थ गुणस्थान से नीचे नहीं आते हैं। ३६. प्रश्न : उपशमश्रेणी अधिक से अधिक कितनी बार प्राप्त
की जाती है ? उत्तर : उपशम श्रेणी अधिक से अधिक चार बार प्राप्त की जा
सकती है परन्तु एक भव में दो बार ही प्राप्त की जाती
है। पाँचवीं बार नियम से क्षपक श्रेणी प्राप्त होती है। ३७. प्रश्न : शपक श्रेणी किसे कहते हैं और इसे कौन जीव
प्राप्त करते हैं ? उत्तर : जिसमें चारित्रमोहनीय का क्षय होता है उसे क्षपक श्रेणी
कहते हैं। इस श्रेणी का प्रारंभ भी अधःकरण परिणामों से होता है। इस श्रेणी वाले जीव क्रम से अपूर्वकरण, अनिवृत्तिकरण और सूक्ष्मसाम्पराय गुणस्थानों को प्राप्त होते हुए सूक्ष्मसाम्पराय गुणस्थान के अन्त में चारित्रमोहनीय का सर्वथा क्षय कर बारहवें क्षीणमोह गुणस्थान को प्राप्त होते हैं। क्षायिक सम्यग्दृष्टि ही इसे मांड सकते हैं। इस श्रेणी वाले जीव का नीचे की ओर पतन नहीं होता है और मरण भी नहीं होता है।
