The extremely difficult task of restraining is done by this, which is not easy. Once success is achieved in this task, even if the evolving soul falls from any higher realm, it still regains its goal - the spiritual complete form, without fail. Some clarification of this spiritual situation can be given through practical examples based on experience.
Like a cloth that has dirt as well as greasiness. Removing the dirt from the surface is not as difficult, if not more laborious, as removing the greasiness. Once the greasiness is removed, the remaining dirt can be easily removed without much effort, and the cloth can be easily brought to its original form. The effort required to remove the surface dirt is like "yathapravrittikarana". The special effort to remove the greasiness is like "apurvkarana", which relaxes the most intense manifestation of attachment-aversion like the greasiness. The remaining effort to remove the residual dirt after the greasiness is removed is like "anivrittkarana". Among these three types of efforts, the water-application to remove the greasiness is the most distinctive.
Or, like a king who has divided his bodyguards into different departments for self-defense, in which the second department is more powerful than the other two departments, then special effort is required to conquer that one. First, its guards have to weaken the impressions of the three darshanmohaniyas (deluding) karmas, like the greasiness.
