आधार- बौस में इ: प्रम का आभार . विगनी, अनुयोगद्वार आदि आगम हैं । आगमगत कमसिद्धान्त को ही आचार्य ने अपनी कुशल प्रतिपादन शैली द्वारा पल्लवित किया है ! आगमों के बाद इसका साक्षात आधार गर्ग ऋषि का बनाया हुआ प्राचीन कमंत्रिपाफ है और फर्मप्रकृति, पंचसंग्रह आदि प्राचीन ग्रन्थों का भी आधार लिया गया है। प्राचीन कर्मग्रन्थ १६६ गाया प्रमाण होने से पहले-पहल कर्मशास्त्र में प्रवेश करने वालों के लिए बहुत विस्तृत हो जाता है, इसलिए इसका संक्षेप केवल ६१ गाथाओं में कर दिया गया है। इतना संक्षेप होने पर भी इसमें प्राचीन कर्मविपाक की कोई भी मुख्य और तात्त्विक बात नहीं छुटी है। संक्षेप करने में ग्रन्धकार ने यहां तक ध्यान रखा है कि कुछ अति उपयोगी नवीन विषय, जिनका वर्णन प्राचीन कर्मविपाक में नहीं, इस ग्रन्थ में समाविष्ट कर दिया है ; उदाहरणार्थ-शुसज्ञान के पर्याय आदि बीस भेद तथा आठ कर्म प्रकृतियों के बंध हेतु प्राचीन कर्म-विपाक में नहीं हैं. किन्तु उनका वर्णन इसमें है । संक्षेप करने में ग्रन्थकार ने इस ओर भी ध्यान रखा है कि जिस एक बात का वर्णन करने से अन्य बातें भी समानता के कारण सुगमता से समझी जा सकें, वहाँ उसी बात को बतलाना, अन्य को नहीं। इस' अभिप्राय से प्राधीन कर्मविपाक में जैसे प्रत्येक मूल या उत्तर प्रकृति का विपाफ दिखाया है, वैसे इस ग्रन्थ में नहीं दिखाया है। परन्तु आवश्यफ वक्तव्य में कुछ भी कमी नहीं की गयी है । इसी से इस पन्थ का प्रचार सर्वसाधारण में हो गया है। इसके पढ़ने वाले प्राचीन कर्मविपाक को बिना टीका-टिप्पण के अनायास ही समझ लेते हैं । यह ग्रन्थ संक्षेप रूप होने से सबको मुखपाठ करने व याद करने में बड़ी आसानी होती है ।
भाषा-- इस कर्मग्रन्थ और इससे आगे के अन्य सभी कर्मग्रन्थों की मूल भाषा प्राकृत है । मूल गाथाएं ऐसी सुगम भाषा में रची गई हैं कि पढ़ने वालों को थोड़ा बहुत संस्कृत का बोध हो, और उन्हें प्राकृत के कुछ नियम समझा दिये जाएं तो वे भूल गाथाओं के ऊपर से ही विषय का परिज्ञान कर सकते हैं । इनकी टीका संस्कृत में है और बड़ी विशदता से लिखी गयी है, जिससे पढ़ने वालों को बड़ी सुगमता होती है।
