अर्थात् तीर्थकर, चक्रवर्ती, वासुदेव, बलदेव आदि और असंख्यात वर्ष जीवी-देवक्रुरु, उत्तरकुरु, आदि में उत्पन्न- मनुष्य, तियंच' अनपवर्तनीय आयु वाले होते हैं। इनके अतिरिक्त शेष मनुष्य, तिर्यच अपवर्तनीय आयु वाले होते हैं। ___ अपवर्तनीय और अनपवर्तनीय आयु का बंध परिणाम के तारतम्य पर अवलम्बित है। भावी जन्म की आयु वर्तमान जन्म में बांधी जाती है। उस समय अगर परिणाम मंद हों तो आयु का बन्ध शिथिल हो जाता है, जिससे निमित्त मिलने पर बन्धकालीन कालमर्यादा घट जाती है। अगर परिणाम तीन हों तो आयु का बंध गाढ़ होता है, जिससे निमित्त मिलने पर भी बंधकालीन कालमर्यादा नहीं घटती है
और न आयु एक साथ ही भागी जा सकती है । तीव्र परिणाम से गाढ़ रूप से बद्ध आयु शस्त्र, विष आदि का प्रयोग होने पर भी अपनी नियत कालमर्यादा से पहले पूर्ण नहीं होती और मंद परिणाम से शिथिल रूप से बद्ध आयु उक्त प्रयोग होते ही अपनी नियत कालमर्यादा समाप्त होने से पहले भी अन्तर्मुहुर्त मात्र में भोग ली जाती है । आयु के इस शीघ्र भोग को अपवर्तना या अकालमृत्यु और नियत स्थिति वाले भोग को अनपवर्तना या कालमृत्यु कहते हैं । ___ अपवर्तनीय आयु सोपक्रम-उपक्रम (तीव्र शस्त्र, विष, अग्नि आदि जिन निमित्तों से अकालमृत्यु होती है, उन निमित्तों का प्राप्त होना उपक्रम है) सहित होती है। ऐसा उपक्रम अपवर्तनीय आयु के अवश्य होता है । क्योंकि वह आयु कालमर्यादा समाप्त होने के पहले
