Odayiga puṇ bhāva, gadilingakṣaya tah ya micchattam. Leśśāsiddhāsanjama aṇṇāṇam honti igivīsan. || 818 ||
Jīvatam bhavatāyī havanti pariṇāmā.
Idi mūluttara bhāva bhanga viyappe bahū jāṇe. || 819 ||
Meaning - There are three pariṇāmik bhāv: jīvatva, bhavya, abhavya. In this way, there are 5 mūla bhāv and 53 uttar bhāv. And if we consider their combinations, there can be many more.
Special meaning - To sustain life, including āyu and prāṇa, is jīvatva. It is not found beyond the final moment of an ayogi, because Siddhas lack the eight karmas that are the cause of prāṇa. Therefore, Siddhas are not jīvas, at most they can be called jīvitapūrva.
Doubt - Why is jīvatva not accepted for Siddhas?
Solution - No, because jīvatva in Siddhas is due to upacāra, and it is not right to consider upacāra as truth.

The absence of prāṇa in Siddhas cannot be explained otherwise. This shows that jīvatva is not pariṇāmik, but arises from the result of karma, because "what is inseparable from the existence and non-existence of something is its cause" - this is the principle of karma-kāraṇabhāv. Therefore, jīvatva bhāv is audayika, this is proven. In Tattvārthasūtra, jīvatva is called pariṇāmik, but this is not in relation to sustaining prāṇa, but in relation to the quality of chaitanya. Therefore, that statement also does not contradict this.
