तिर्यक क्लेश-परिणज्या-हिंसारम्भ-प्रलम्भनादीनाम् ।
कथा-प्रसंग-प्रसवः स्मर्तव्यः पाप उपदेशः ॥७६॥ रत्नकरण्ड थावकाचार]
—तिर्यचों के वाणिज्य की तथा क्लेशात्मक वाणिज्य की या तिर्यचों के क्लेश तथा क्रयविक्रयादि रूप वाणिज्य की अथवा तिर्यचों को वलेशकारी बाणिज्य की, प्राणियों के वध रूप हिसा की, कृष्यादि सावद्य प्रारम्भ की, ठगने रूप विषयों की कथानों के प्रसंग हेड़ने को पापोपदेश नाम का अनर्थवण्ड है । इसका त्याग अनर्थदण्डवत है।
विद्यावाणिज्यमषीकृषिसेवाशिल्पगोविनां पुंसाम् ।
पापोपदेशदानं कदाचिवपि नव वक्तव्यम् ।।१४२॥ पुरुषार्थसिद्धय पाय] -विद्या, ब्यापार, लेखनकला (मुनीम, क्लर्क), खेती, नौकरी और कारीगरी से जीविका करने वाले पुरुष को पाप का उपदेश मिले ऐसा वचन किसी समय नहीं बोलना चाहिए।
बिना प्रयोजन वृक्ष आदि को छेदना, भूमि को कूटना, पानी सींचना आदि पापकार्य प्रमावचरित नाम का अनर्थदण्ड है।' इसका दूसरा नाम प्रमादचर्या भी है।
क्षिति-सलिल-दहन-पवनारम्भं विफलं वनस्पतिच्छेदं ।
सरणं सारणमपि च प्रमावचाँ प्रभाषन्ते ॥५०॥[रत्नकरण्डश्रावकाचार] —पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि तथा पवन के व्यर्थ आरम्भ को अर्थात् बिना प्रयोजन पृथ्वी के खोदने को, जल के छिड़कने, अग्नि जलाने-बुझाने को, पंखे से पवन ताड़ने को, व्यर्थ के वनस्पतिच्छेद को और व्यर्थ के पर्यटन को प्रमादचर्या नाम का अनर्थदण्ड कहते हैं । इसका त्याग अनर्थदण्डव्रत है।
