आदि अंगुल के असंख्यातवें भाग मात्र द्रव्य और भाव विकल्प उत्पन्न हो जाने पर तत्पश्चात् जघन्य धोत्र के ऊपर एक आकाश प्रदेश बढ़ता है परन्तु काल जघन्य ही रहता है। इससे जाना जाता है कि द्रव्य व भाव की अपेक्षा अवधिज्ञान की पद-संख्या सदृश है। किन्तु क्षेत्र की अपेक्षा पद-संख्या हीन है। इस प्रकार क्षेत्र पद-संरया से काल पद-संख्या अल्प है।
सत्तमखिदिम्मि कोसं कोसस्सद्ध पचड्ढवे ताय । जाव य पढमे गिरये जोयरामेक्कं हवे पुण्णं ॥४२४।।
गाथार्थ- सातवीं पृथिवी (सातवें नरक) में अबधिज्ञान का क्षेत्र एक कोस है। इसके ऊपर अर्ध-अर्ध कोस की वृद्धि तब तक होती गई जब तक प्रथम नरक में अबधिज्ञान का क्षेत्र सम्पूर्ण एक योजन (४ कोस) हो जाता है ।।४२४।।
विशेषार्य-नारकियों में जघन्य अवधिशान का क्षेत्र गन्यूक्ति (एक कोस) और उत्कृष्ट क्षेत्र एक योजन प्रमाण है। सातवीं पृथिवी में नारकियों के अवधिज्ञान का उत्कृष्ट क्षेत्र गव्यूति प्रमाण और प्रयधिज्ञान का काल विषय उत्कृष्ट रूप से अन्तर्मुहूर्त है। छठी पृथिवी में अवधिज्ञान का उत्कृष्ट क्षेत्र डेढ़ गव्युति (कोस) प्रमाण है और काल अन्तमुहर्त है। पांचवों पृथिवी में उत्कृष्ट अबधिज्ञान का क्षेत्र दो गन्यूति (कोस) प्रमाण और काल अन्तर्मुहूर्त है। चौथी पृथिवी में नारकियों के उत्कृष्ट अवधिज्ञान के क्षेत्र अढ़ाई गव्युति प्रमाण और वहाँ उत्कृष्ट काल अन्तर्मुहर्त है। तीसरी प्रथिबी में उत्कृष्ट अवधिज्ञान का क्षेत्र तीन गव्यूति (कोस) प्रमाण है और उत्कृष्ट काल अन्तर्मुहर्त प्रमाण है। दूसरी पृथिवी में नारकियों के उत्कृष्ट अवधिज्ञान का क्षेत्र साढ़े तीन गव्यूति प्रमाण और वहाँ उत्कृष्ट काल अन्तमुहर्त है। पहली पृथिवी में नारकियों के उत्कृष्ट अवधिज्ञान का क्षेत्र चार गन्यूति (एक योजन) प्रमाण है और वहीं उत्कृष्ट काल एक समय कम मुहुर्त प्रमाण है।
शङ्का-माथा में काल नहीं कहा गया फिर वह किम प्रमाण से जाना जाता है। समाधान- वह “गाउग्रं मुहत्तंतो । जोयणभिण्णामुहत्तं” इस गाथा ४०५ से जाना जाता है ।
