ईस्वी पर्व प्रथम शताब्दि में एक भारतीय राजा का संबध रोम के बादशाह ऑगस्टस से था। उन्होंने उस बादशाह के लिये भेंट भेजी थी। जो लोग उस भेंट को ले गये थे, उनके साथ भृगुकन्छ (भडौंच) से एक श्रमणाचार्य(दिगम्बर जैनाचार्य) भी साथ हो लिये थे। वह यूनान पहुंचे थे और वहाँ उनका सम्मान हुआ था। आखिर सल्तखा, प्रतको पाला कर उन्हनि अन्त(Athens) में प्राण विसर्जन किये थे। वहाँ उनको एक निषधिका बनायी गई थी। अब भला कहिये, जब उस समय दिगम्बर मनि विदेशों तक में जाकर धर्म प्रचार करने में समर्थ थे, तो वे भारत में क्यों न विहार और धर्म प्रचार करने सफल होते। जैन साहित्य बताता है कि गंगदेव सुधर्म, नक्षत्र, जयपाल, पाण्डु, ध्रुवसेन आदि दिगम्बर जैनाचार्यों के नेतृत्व में तत्कालीन जैन धर्म सजीव हो रहा था।
ईस्वी पूर्व प्रथम शताब्दि में भारत में अपोलो और दपस नामक दो यूनानी तत्त्वेता आये थे। उनका तत्कालीन दिगम्बर मुनियों के साथ शास्त्रार्थ हुआ था। सारांशतः उस समय भी दिगम्बर मुनि इतने पहत्त्वशील थे कि वे विदेशियों का भी श्यान आकृष्ट करने को समर्थ थे।
