consequently the Jain world remains deprived of the great compositions. This is the great loss of Jafnism and Jain literature. The English speaking foreigners are also deprived of the great Jain philosophy. In such a situation. Veer Gyanodaya Granthamala, which is established under Digambar Jain Trilok Shodh Sansthan, on the inspiration of Param Pujya Ganinipramukh Aryika Shri Gyanmati Matajl, to publish ancient books of Digambar Jain tradition and their commentaries, short religious books in different languages, dramas and books of Pooja-Vidhan (worshippings). took up a challanging task of compiling such a dictionary in which specialised meaning of Jain terminologies could be found in Hindi & English both languages.
Firstly, the inspiration for such a compilation was given by Pujya Ganinipramukh Aryika Shri Gyanmati Mataji at the time of executive meeting of Tirthankar Rishabhdev Jain Vidvat Mahasangha at Delhi in July 2001 and the extraordinary academic interest, discussions and continuous guidance of most venerable and learned Pragya Shramni Arvika Shri Chandnamati Mataji, the disc : Shri Gjeratiivigaji, gavs a 1071 13 complete this work earnestly and under her guidance & with her valuable attempts in this direction, on the occasion of 2600th birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, a detailed project was prepared and the collection of material and the analytical work was started from 1st October, 2001. Before the compilation of this dictionary, some other attempts have also been made in this direction, some of them are as follows
1 Jalna Technical Terms, Dr. Mohanlal Mehta, Pune (M.S.). 2 Glossary of Jaina Terms, Dr. N.L. Jain. Rewa (M.P.).
3. Sudha Sagar Hindi-English Jaina Dictionary, Dr. Ramesh Chand Jain, Bijnor (U.P.).
In all these attempts, there seems a lack of proper Hindi-English de scriptions, that's why we have expressed essential definitions of words in Hindi & English both languages in our dictionary. For this compilation, with the use of above dictionaries sometimes, we have used the following books abundantly
1. Jainendra Siddhanta Kosha, Part-1,2,3,4,5 2. Tattvarth Sutra (English version)-Justice J.L. Jaini. 3. Vrahata Jaina Shabdarnava. 4. Jaina Purana Kosha. 5. Apte Hindi Kosha. 6. Labdhisara, 7, Gommatasara Jivakanda & Karmakanda 8. Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary 9. Oxford English-English Dictionary.
