आदिपुराणम् "अनाप्नीत प्रणतानेष समताप्सीद् विरोधिनः । शमप्रतापो श्मा जतुः पार्थिवस्याचितौ गुणौ ॥३६॥ प्रसन्नया दशैवास्य प्रसादः प्रणते रिपौ। भ्रभङ्गेनास्फुटत कोपः सत्यं बहुनटो नृपः ॥३७॥ अंङ्गान्मणिभिरत्यङ्गैर्वङ्गांस्तुङ्गैर्मतङ्गः । तैश्च तैश्च कलिङ्गेशान् सोऽभ्यनन्ददुपानतान् ॥३८॥ मागधायितमेवास्य स्फुट "मागधिकैर्नृपैः । कीर्तयद्भिगंणानच्चैः प्रसादमभिलाषुकैः ॥३९॥ कुरूनदन्तीन पाञ्चालान काशींश्च सह कोसलैः । वैदर्भानप्यनागासादाचकर्ष' चमूपतिः ॥४०॥
व्रजन् मद्रांश्च कच्छांश्च दीन् वत्सान् ससुमकान् । पुण्डानोण्डांश्च गौडांश्च "मतमश्रावयद विभोः ॥४१॥ दशार्णान् कामरूपांश्च काश्मीरानप्युशीनरान् । मध्यमानपि भूपालान् सोऽचिराद् वशमानयत् ॥४२॥ ददुरस्मै नृपाः प्राच्यकलिङ्गाङ्गारजान् गजान् । गिरीनिव महोच्छायान् प्रश्चोतन्मदनिझरान् ॥४३॥ 'दशार्णकवनोद्भुतानपि चेविककुशजान् । दिङ्नागस्पर्धिनो नागा आदुर्नाग वनाधिपाः ॥४॥ विभोर्बलभरक्षोभमासहन्तीव दुःसहम् । सुपुवेऽनन्तरत्नानि गर्भिणीव वसुन्धरा ॥४५॥
दष्टि डालकर अपना प्रेम प्रकट किया था ॥३५॥ उन्होंने नम्रीभूत राजाओंको सन्तुष्ट किया था और विरोधी राजाओंको अच्छी तरहसे सन्तप्त किया था सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि पृथिवीको जीतनेके लिए शान्ति और प्रताप ये दो ही राजाओंके योग्य गुण माने गये हैं ॥३६॥ राजा भरत नमस्कार करनेवाले पुरुषपर अपनी प्रसन्न दृष्टिसे प्रसन्नता प्रकट करते थे और साथ ही शत्रुके ऊपर भौंह टेढ़ी कर क्रोध प्रकट करते जाते थे इसलिए यह उक्ति सच मालूम होती है कि राजा लोग नट तुल्य होते हैं ॥३७॥ उत्तम-उत्तम मणियोंको भेंट कर नमस्कार करते हुए अंग देशके राजाओंगर, ऊँचे-ऊँचे हाथियोंको भेंट कर नमस्कार करते हुए वंग देशके राजाओंपर और मणि तथा हाथो दोनोंको भेंट कर नमस्कार करते हुए कलिंग देशके राजाओंपर वह भरत बहुत ही प्रसन्न हुए थे ॥३८॥ भरतेश्वरके प्रसादकी इच्छा करनेवाले मगध देशके राजा उनके उत्कृष्ट गुण गा रहे थे इसलिए वे ठीक मागध अर्थात् बन्दीजनोंके समान जान पड़ते थे ॥३९।। भरत महाराजके सेनापतिने कुरु, अवन्ती, पांचाल, काशी, कोशल और वैदर्भ देशोंके राजाओंको बिना किसी परिश्रमके अपनी ओर खींच लिया था अर्थात् अपने वश कर लिया था ॥४०।। मद्र, कच्छ, चेदि, वत्स, सुह्म, पुण्ड, औण्ड और गौड़ देशोंमें जा-जाकर सेनापतिने सब जगह भरत महाराजकी आज्ञा सुनायी थी ॥४१।। उसने दशार्ण, कामरूप, कश्मीर, उशीनर
और मध्यदेशके समस्त राजाओंको बहुत शीघ्र वश कर लिया था ॥४२॥ वहाँके राजाओंने जिनसे मदके निर्झरने झर रहे हैं ऐसे, पूर्व देशमें उत्पन्न होनेवाले तथा कलिंग और अंगार देशमें उत्पन्न होनेवाले, पर्वतोंके समान ऊँचे-ऊँचे हाथी महाराज भरतके लिए भेंटमें दिये थे ॥४३॥ जिनमें हाथी उत्पन्न होते हैं ऐसे वनोंके स्वामियोंने दिग्गजोंके साथ स्पर्धा करनेवाले, दशार्णक वनमें उत्पन्न हए तथा चेदि और ककुश देशमें उत्पन्न हुए हाथी महाराजके लिए प्रदान किये थे ॥४४॥ उस समय भरतेश्वरको पथिवीपर जहाँ-तहाँ अनेक रत्न भेटमें मिल रहे थे इसलिए ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो गर्भिणीके समान पृथिवीने चक्रवर्तीकी सेनाके बोझसे उत्पन्न हुए दुःसह क्षोभको न सह सकनेके कारण ही अनन्त रत्न उत्पन्न किये हुए हों ॥४५।।

It seemed as if the earth, like a pregnant woman, could not bear the unbearable burden of the chakravarti's army and had given birth to countless gems. ||45||
