अष्टत्रिंशत्तमं पर्व
जयन्स्यखिल वाङमार्गगामिन्यः सूक्तयोऽर्हताम् । धूतान्धतमसा दीप्रा यास्त्विषोंऽशुमतामिव ॥१॥ स जीयात् वृषभो मोहविषसुप्तमिदं जवात् । पटविद्येव यद्विद्या सद्यः समुदतिष्टपत् ॥२॥ तं नत्वा परमं ज्योतिर्वृषमं वीरमन्वतः । द्विजन्मनामथोत्पत्तिं वक्ष्ये श्रेणिक भोः शृणु ॥३॥ भरतो भारतं वर्ष निर्जित्य सह पार्थिवैः । षष्टया वर्षसहस्रेस्तु दिशां निववृते जयात् ॥४॥ कृतकृत्यस्य तस्यान्तश्चिन्तेयमुदपद्यत । परार्थे संपदास्माकी सोपयोगा कथं भवेत् ॥५॥ महामहमहं कृत्वा जिनेन्द्रस्य महोदयम् । प्रीणयामि जगद्विश्वं विष्वग विश्राणयन् धनम् ॥६॥ नानगारा वसून्यस्मत् प्रतिगृह्णन्ति निःस्पृहाः । सागारः कतमः पूज्यो धनधान्यसमृद्धिभिः ॥७॥ येऽणुव्रतधरा धीरा धौरेयाँ गृहमेधिनाम् । तर्पणीया हि तेऽस्मामिरीप्सितैर्वसुवाहनैः ॥८॥ इति निश्चित्य राजेन्द्रः सत्कर्तुमुचितानिमान् । परीचिक्षिषुरादास्त तदा सर्वान् महीभुजः ॥९॥ सदाचारैर्निजैरिष्टैरनुजीविमि रन्विताः। अद्यास्मदुत्सवे यूयमायातेति' पृथक् पृथक् ॥१०॥ हरितैरङ्करैः पुष्पैः फलैचाकीर्णमङ्गणम् । संम्राडचीकरतेषां परीक्षायै स्ववेश्मनि ॥११॥ तेष्वव्रता विना संगात् 'प्राविक्षन् नृपमन्दिरम् । तानेकतः समुत्सायं शेषानाह्वययत् प्रभुः ॥१२॥
जो समस्त भाषाओंमें परिणत होनेवाली है, जिसने अज्ञानरूपी गाढ़ अन्धकारको नष्ट कर दिया है और जो सूर्यको किरणोंके समान देदीप्यमान है वह अरहन्त भगवान्की सुन्दर वाणी सदा जयवन्त हो ॥१॥ गारुड़ी विद्याके समान जिनकी विद्याने मोहरूपी विषसे सोये हए इस समस्त संसारको बहुत शीघ्र जगा दिया वे भगवान् वृषभदेव सदा जयवन्त रहें ॥२॥ गौतमस्वामी राजा श्रेणिकसे कहते हैं कि हे श्रेणिक, मैं उन परमज्योति-स्वरूप भगवान् वृषभदेव तथा भगवान् महावीर स्वामीको नमस्कार कर अब यहाँसे द्विजोंकी उत्पत्ति कहता हूँ सो सुनो ॥३॥ भरत चक्रवर्ती अनेक राजाओंके साथ भारतवर्षको जीतकर साठ हजार वर्षमें दिग्विजयसे वापस लौटे ॥४॥ जब वे सब कार्य कर चुके तब उनके चित्तमें यह चिन्ता उत्पन्न हुई कि दूसरेके उपकारमें मेरी इस सम्पदाका उपयोग किस प्रकार हो सकता है ? ॥५॥ मैं श्री जिनेन्द्रदेवका बड़े ऐश्वर्यके साथ महामह नामका यज्ञ कर धन वितरण करता हुआ समस्त संसारको सन्तुष्ट करूँ ? ॥६॥ सदा निःस्पृह रहनेवाले मुनि तो हम लोगोंसे धन लेते नहीं हैं परन्तु ऐसा गृहस्थ भी कौन है जो धन-धान्य आदि सम्पत्तिके द्वारा पूजा करनेके योग्य है ॥७॥ जो अणुव्रतको धारण करनेवाले हैं, धीर वीर हैं और गृहस्थों में मुख्य हैं ऐसे पुरुष ही हम लोगोंके द्वारा इच्छित धन तथा सवारी आदिक वाहनोंके द्वारा तर्पण करनेके योग्य हैं ॥८॥ इस प्रकार निश्चय कर सत्कार करनेके योग्य व्यक्तियोंकी परीक्षा करनेकी इच्छासे राजराजेश्वर भरतने उस समय समस्त राजाओंको बुलाया ॥९॥ और सबके पास खबर भेज दी कि आप लोग अपने-अपने सदाचारी इष्ट मित्र तथा नौकर-चाकर आदिके साथ आज हमारे उत्सवमें अलग-अलग आवें ॥१०॥ इधर चक्रवर्तीने उन सबकी परीक्षा करनेके लिए अपने घरके आँगनमें हरे-हरे अंकुर, पुष्प और फल खूब भरवा दिये ॥११॥ उन लोगोंमें जो अव्रती थे वे

## The Thirty-Eighth Chapter

May the beautiful words of the Arhats, which have conquered all paths of speech, which have dispelled the darkness of ignorance, and which shine like the rays of the sun, be victorious forever! ||1||

May the Lord Vrishabhadeva, whose knowledge, like the Garuda Vidya, has awakened this world, which was asleep in the poison of delusion, be victorious forever! ||2||

Bharata Chakravarti, having conquered the land of Bharatavarsha along with many kings, returned from his conquest after sixty thousand years. ||4||

Having accomplished all his tasks, a thought arose in his mind: "How can this wealth of mine be used for the benefit of others?" ||5||

"Should I perform a great sacrifice called 'Mahamaham' in honor of the Jina, and by distributing wealth, satisfy the entire world?" ||6||

"The monks, always free from desire, do not accept wealth from us. But which householder is worthy of being honored with wealth, grain, and other riches?" ||7||

"Those who observe the Anuvrata, who are wise and valiant, and who are the leaders among householders, are worthy of being honored by us with desired wealth and vehicles." ||8||

Thus, having decided to test those worthy of honor, the King of Kings, Bharata, summoned all the kings at that time. ||9||

He sent word to everyone, "Come to our festival today, each with your own righteous friends, servants, and attendants." ||10||

Meanwhile, the Chakravarti had his courtyard filled with green sprouts, flowers, and fruits for the purpose of testing them. ||11||

Those who did not observe the vows, either out of thought or restriction, did not enter the king's palace. The king, from various sources, summoned the rest. ||12||
