आदिपुराणम् गोतमा 'गौ प्रकृष्टा स्यात् सा च सर्वज्ञमारती। तां वेस्सि तामधीषे च त्वमतो गौतमो मतः ॥५२॥ गोतमादागतो देवः स्वर्गाप्राद् गौतमो मतः । तेन प्रोक्तमधीयानस्त्वं चासौ गौतमश्रुतिः ॥५३॥ इन्द्रेण प्राप्तपूजर्बुिरिन्द्रभूतिस्त्वमिष्यसे । साक्षात् सर्वज्ञपुत्रस्वमालसंज्ञानकण्ठिकः ॥५४॥ चतुर्मिश्चामलबर्बोधैरबुद्धस्त्वं जगद् यतः । प्रज्ञापारमितं बुद्धं त्वां निराहुरतो बुधाः ॥५५॥ पारतमः परं ज्योतिस्त्वामदृष्ट्वा दुरासदम् । ज्योतिर्मयः प्रदीपोऽसि त्वं तस्याभिप्रकाशनात् ॥५६॥ श्रुतदेव्याहितस्त्रैणप्रयत्ना बोधदीपिका। तवैषा प्रज्वलत्युच्चै?तयन्ती जगद्गृहम् ॥५७॥ तव वाक्प्रकरो दिव्यो विधुन्वन् जगतां तमः । प्रकाशयति सन्मार्ग रखेरिव करोस्करः ॥५॥ तव लोकातिगा प्रज्ञा विद्यानां पारहश्वरी । श्रुतस्कन्धमहासिन्धोरमजद यानपात्रताम् ॥५॥ स्वयावतारिता तुङ्गान्महावीरहिमाचलात् । श्रुतामरसरित्पुण्या निर्धनानाखिलं रजः ॥६०॥ प्रत्यक्षश्च परोक्षश्च द्विधा ते ज्ञानपर्ययः । केवलं केवलिन्येकस्ततस्त्वं श्रुतकेवली ॥६॥
उत्कृष्ट वाणीको गौतम कहते हैं और वह उत्कृष्ट वाणी सर्वज्ञ-तीर्थकरकी दिव्य ध्वनि ही हो सकती है उसे आप जानते हैं अथवा उसका अध्ययन करते हैं इसलिए आप गौतम माने गये हैं अर्थात् आपका यह नाम सार्थक है (श्रेष्ठा गौः,गोतमा, तामधीते वेद वागौतमः 'तदधीते वेदवा' इत्यणप्रत्ययः) ॥५२॥ अथवा यों समझिए कि भगवान् वर्धमान स्वामी, गोतम अर्थात् उत्तम सोलहवें स्वर्गसे अवतीर्ण हुए हैं इसलिए वर्धमान स्वामीको गौतम कहते हैं इन गौतम अर्थात् वर्धमान स्वामी-द्वारा कही हुई दिव्यध्वनिको आप पढ़ते हैं, जानते हैं, इसलिए लोग आपको गौतम कहते हैं । (गोतमादागतः गौतमः 'तत आगतः' इत्यण , गौतमेन प्रोक्तमिति गौतमम्, गौतमम् अधीते वेद वा गौतमः) ॥५३।। आपने इन्द्रके द्वारा की हुई अर्चारूपी विभूतिको प्राप्त किया है इसलिए आप इन्द्रभूति कहलाते हैं। तथा आपको सम्यग्ज्ञानरूपी कण्ठाभरण प्राप्त हुआ है अतः आप सर्वज्ञदेव श्री वर्धमान स्वामीके साक्षात् पुत्रके समान हैं ॥५४॥ हे देव, आपने अपने चार निर्मल ज्ञानोंके द्वारा समस्त संसारको जान लिया है तथा आप बुद्धिके पारको प्राप्त हुए हैं इसलिए विद्वान् लोग आपको बुद्ध कहते हैं ॥५५॥ हे देव, आपको बिना देखे अज्ञानान्धकारसे परे रहनेवाली केवलज्ञानरूपी उत्कृष्ट ज्योतिका प्राप्त होना अत्यन्त कठिन है, आप उस ज्योतिके प्रकाश होनेसे ज्योतिस्वरूप अनोखे दीपक हैं ॥५६॥ हे स्वामिन् , श्रुत देवताके द्वारा स्त्रीरूपको धारण करनेवाली आपकी सम्यग्ज्ञानरूपी दीपिका जगतरूपी घरको प्रकाशित करती हुई अत्यन्त शोभायमान हो रही है ।।५७।। आपके दिव्य वचनोंका समूह लोगोंके मिथ्यात्व रूपी अन्धकारको नष्ट करता हुआ सूर्यको किरणोंके समूहके समान समीचीन मार्गका प्रकाश करता है ॥५८॥ हे देव, आपकी यह प्रज्ञा लोकमें सबसे चढ़ी-बढ़ी है, समस्त विद्याओंमें पारंगत है और द्वादशांगरूपी समुद्रमें जहाजपनेको प्राप्त है-अर्थात् जहाजका काम देती है ॥५९॥ हे देव, आपने अत्यन्त ऊँचे वर्धमान स्वामीरूप हिमालयसे उस श्रुतज्ञानरूपी गङ्गा नदीका अवतरण कराया है जो कि स्वयं पवित्र है और समस्त पापरूपी रजको धोनेवाली है।।६०॥ हे देव, केवलीभगवानमें मात्र एक केवलज्ञान ही होता है और आपमें प्रत्यक्ष परोक्षके भेदसे दो प्रकारका ज्ञान विद्यमान है इसलिए आप श्रुतकेवली

O Dev, it is very difficult to attain the excellent light of omniscience, which is beyond the darkness of ignorance, without seeing it. You are the unique lamp of light, because you are the light of that light. ||56||

O Swami, your omniscience, in the form of a lamp, which is taken by the Shruta Devata in the form of a woman, is illuminating the house of the world and is shining brightly. ||57||

The group of your divine words destroys the darkness of falsehood in people, and illuminates the right path like a group of rays of the sun. ||58||

O Dev, your wisdom is the highest in the world, it is proficient in all knowledge, and it is capable of being a ship in the ocean of the twelve angas - i.e., it serves the purpose of a ship. ||59||

O Dev, you have brought down the Shruta-knowledge, in the form of the Ganga river, from the very high Vardhaman Swami, in the form of the Himalayas. This river is itself pure and washes away all the dirt of sins. ||60||

O Dev, there is only one omniscience in the Kevali Bhagwan, and you have two types of knowledge, in the form of direct and indirect, therefore you are Shruta-Kevali.
