You ask me why Pythagoras abstained from feeding upon the flesh of animals. I for my part, marvel of what sort of feeling, mind or reason that man was possessed who was the first to pollute his mouth, with gore and to allow his lips to touch the flesh of the muriere:1 being, who spread his table with the wangled forms of dead bodies, and claimed as his daily food what were but nous beings endowed with norement, with perception, and with voice. "FLESH-EATING."
એક જુલમગાર રાજા પિતાની રિયત ઉપર ગેરઇન્સાફીથી હકુમત કરવા જેટલો ગર્વ ધરાવે છે, તે જેટલું પાપનું કર્મ છે, તેટલું જ, બલકે તેથી વધારે પાપનું કમર; મુંગા પ્રાણુઓ પર કે જેના સરદાર તરીકે ખુદાએ મનુષ્યને મેકલ્યાં છે તે સરદારી અને હકુમતને ગેરઉપયોગ કરી, તેના પર જુલમ ગુજારવાનું છે. જેવી રીતે આપણે આપણું રાજાથી ઇન્સાફના ઉમેદવાર છીએ, તેવી જ રીતે મુંગા પ્રાણીઓ પણ ઈન્સાનની દયા તેમજ ઈન્સાફના આરજુમંદ છે.
