જૈનત્વ.
- હેમણે નવીન મત સ્થાપન કર્યો. વિચાર કરજો કે જેનમત હેની શાખા તે કયાંથી જ હોઈ શકે ? ૧૦. પ્રો. જેકોબી કહે છે –
"The Buddhist frequently refer to the Nirgranıbas or Jainas as a rival sect bnt they never so much as hint, this sect was a newly founded one. On the contraiy, from the way in which they speak of it, it would seem that this sect of Nirgianthes was at Fuddha's time already one of Iong standing or in other words, it seems probable that Jainism is considerable order ihan Buddhism. | ભાવાર્થ:–બાએ વારંવાર જૈનેને પિતાની હરિફાઈ કર નારા કહ્યા છે પણ એમ તો કદી નથી કહ્યું કે જૈનધર્મ એ તાજેજ પ્રસ્થાપીત છે. એથી ઉલટું, જે રીતે બૌદ્ધો જૈન માટે બોલે છે તે ઉપરથી તો એમ સાબીત થાય છે કે બુદ્ધના સમયમાં નિગ્રંથોને ધર્મ ઘણુંયે વર્ષોથી હતો એટલે કે સંભવિત છે કે જૈન ધર્મ બૌદ્ધ ધર્મ કરતાં કેટલાયે પ્રાચીન હશે.
૧૧. ડો, રાઈ ડેવીડઝ લખે છેઃ
J. «The Jains have remained as an organized community all through the history of India from before the rise fo Buddhism down to day: | ભાવાર્થ– ભારતના ઇતિહાસમાં બૌદ્ધ ધર્મના બહુજ પહેલાંથી જૈન લેક એક સંગઠિત જાતિરૂપમાં ઉતરતા આવી રહ્યા છે.”
૧૨. લોકમાન્ય તિલક લખે છે- “બૌદ્ધ ધર્મની સ્થાપના પહેલાં જન ધર્મનો પ્રકાશ ફેલાઈ રહ્યો હતો. બૌદ્ધ ધર્મ પછીથી થયો તે ચોક્કસ છે.”
