आगम सूत्र ३९, छेदसूत्र-५, 'महानिशीथ'
अध्ययन/उद्देश/सूत्रांक फिर से आकाश में इस प्रकार शब्द सुनाइ दिए-अकाले तुम्हारी मौत नहीं होगी । यह तुम्हारा अन्तिम भव और शरीर है। इसलिए बद्ध स्पृष्ट भोगफल भुगतकर फिर संयम स्वीकार कर । सूत्र- ८६५-८७०
इस प्रकार चारण मुनि ने जब दो बार (आत्महत्या करते) रोका तब गुरु के चरण कमल में जाकर उनके पास वेश अर्पण करके फिर निवेदन किया कि-सूत्र और अर्थ का स्मरण करते-करते देशान्तर में गया था, वहाँ आहार ग्रहण करने के लिए वेश्या के घर जा पहुँचा । जब मैंने धर्मलाभ सुनाया तब मेरे पास अर्थलाभ की माँग की। तब मेरी उस तरह की लब्धि सिद्ध होने से मैंने उस वक्त कहा कि भले वैसा हो । उस वक्त वहाँ साड़े बारह क्रोड़ प्रमाण द्रव्य की सुवर्ण वृष्टि करवा के उसके मंदिर से बाहर नीकल गया । ऊंचे विशाल गोल स्तनवाली गणिका दृढ़ आलिंगन देकर कहने लगी कि अरे ! क्षुल्लक ! अविधि से यह द्रव्य देकर वापस क्यों चला जाता है? भवितव्य के योग से नंदिषेण ने अवसर के अनुरूप सोचकर कहा कि तुम्हें जो विधि इष्ट हो उसे तुम वो द्रव्य देना। सूत्र-८७१-८७४
उस वक्त उसने ऐसा अभिग्रह ग्रहण किया और उसके मंदिर में प्रवेश किया । कौन-सा अभिग्रह किया ? प्रतिदिन मुजे दश लोगों को प्रतिबोध देना और एक भी कम रहे और दीक्षा अंगीकार न करे तब तक भोजन और पानविधि न करना । मेरी प्रतिज्ञा पूरी न हो तब तक मुज स्थंडिलमात्र (दस्त-पेशाब) न करने । दूसरा प्रव्रज्या लेने के लिए तैयार लोगों को प्रव्रज्या न देनी । क्योंकि गुरु का जैसा वेश हो (यानि गुरु का जैसा आचरण हो वैसा ही शिष्य का होता है ।) गणिका ने सुवर्णनिधि क्षय न हो वैसा इन्तजाम करके लुंचित मस्तकवाले और जर्जरित देहवाले नंदिषेण को उस तरह आराधन किया कि जिससे उसके स्नेहपाश में बंध गया। सूत्र- ८७५-८७७
आलाप-बातचीत करने से प्रणय पैदा हो, प्रणय से रति हो, रति से भरोसा पैदा हो । भरोसे से स्नेह इस तरह पाँच तरह का प्रेम होता है । इस प्रकार वो नंदिषेण प्रेमपाश से बँधा होने के बाद भी शास्त्र में बताया श्रावकपन पालन करे और हररोज दश या उससे ज्यादा प्रतिबोध करके गुरु के पास दीक्षा लेने को भेजते थे। सूत्र-८७८-८८१
अब वो खुद दुर्मुख सोनी से प्रतिबोध किस तरह पाया ? उसने नंदिषेण को कहा कि लोगों को धर्मोपदेश सुनाते हो और आत्मकार्य में तुम खुद ही फिक्रमंद हो । वाकई यह धर्म क्या बेचने की चीज है ? क्योंकि तुम खुद तो उसे अपनाते नहीं । ऐसा दुर्मुख का सुभाषित वचन सुनकर काँपते हुए अपनी आत्मा की दीर्घकाल तक निंदा करने लगा । अरेरे, भ्रष्ट शीलवाले मैंने यह क्या किया ? अज्ञानपन की नीद्रा में कर्म के कीचड़वाले गड्ढे में अशुचि विष्ठा में जैसे कृमि सड़ते हैं वैसे सड़ा । अधन्य ऐसे मुझको धिक्कार है । मेरी अनुचित चेष्टा देखो । जात्य कंचन समान मेरे उत्तम आत्मा को अशुचि समान मैंने बनाया। सूत्र-८८२-८८४
जितने में क्षणभंगुर ऐसे इस मेरे देह का विनाश न हो उतने में तीर्थंकर भगवंत के चरणकमल में जाकर मैं अपने गुनाह का प्रायश्चित्त करूँ । हे गौतम ! ऐसे पश्चात्ताप करते हुए वो यहाँ आएगा और घोर प्रायश्चित्त का सेवन पाएगा | घोर और वीर तप का सेवन करके अशुभ कर्म खपाकर शुक्लध्यान की श्रेणी पर आरोहण करके केवलज्ञान पाकर मोक्ष में जाएंगे। सूत्र-८८५
इसलिए हे गौतम ! इस दृष्टांत से संयम टिकाने के लिए शास्त्र के अनुसार कईं उपाय सोचे । नंदिषेण ने गुरु को वेश जिस तरह से अर्पण किया आदि उपाय सोचे ।

Before this fleeting body of mine is destroyed, I will go to the lotus feet of the Tirthankara Bhagavan and atone for my sins. O Gautama! He will come here repenting like this and will receive the benefit of severe penance. By practicing severe and heroic austerities, he will consume his evil karma, ascend to the category of pure meditation, attain omniscience, and attain liberation. Sutra- 885
