आगम सूत्र ३९, छेदसूत्र-५, 'महानिशीथ'
अध्ययन/उद्देश/सूत्रांक हूँ, मुझे उनको सही रास्ता दिखाना चाहिए । और फिर दूसरी बात यह ध्यान में रखनी है कि - तीर्थंकर भगवंत ने आचार्य के छत्तीस गुण बताए हैं उसमें से मैं एक का भी अतिक्रमण नहीं करूँगा | शायद मेरी जान भी वैसा करने से चली जाएगी तो भी मैं आराधक बनूँगा । आगम में कहा है कि यह लोक या परलोक के खिलाफ कार्य हो उसके लिए आचरण न करना, न करवाना या आचरण करनेवाले को अच्छा न मानना, तो ऐसे गुणयुक्त तीर्थंकर का कहा भी वो नहीं करते तो मैं उनके वेस लूँट लूँ । शास्त्र में इस प्रकार प्ररूपणा की है कि जो कोई साधु या साध्वी केवल वचन से भी झूठा व्यवहार करे तो उसे गलती सुधारने के लिए सारना, वारणा, चोयणा, प्रतिचोयणा करनी चाहिए, उस प्रकार सारणा, वारणा, चोयणा, परिचोयणा करने के बावजूद भी जो बुजुर्ग के वचन को ठुकराकर आलस कर रहा हो, कहने के मुताबिक वैसे अप्कार्य में से पीछे हठ न करता है उनका वेष ग्रहण करके नीकाल देना चाहिए। उस प्रकार आगम में बताए न्याय से हे गौतम ! उस आचार्य ने जितने में एक शिष्य का वेश (ग्रहण करके) अँटवा लिया। उतने में बाकी शिष्य हर एक दिशा में भाग गए।
उसके बाद हे गौतम ! वो आचार्य जितने में धीरे-धीरे उनके पीछे जाने लगे, लेकिन जल्दी नहीं जाते थे। हे गौतम ! जल्दी चले तो खारी भूमि में से मधुर भूमि में संक्रमण करना पड़े । मधुर भूमि में से खारी भूमि में चलना पड़े । काली भूमि में से पीली भूमि में, पीली भूमि में से काली भूमि में, जल में से स्थल में, स्थल में से जल में, संक्रमण करके जाना पड़े उस कारण से विधि से पाँव की प्रमार्जना करके संक्रमण करना चाहिए । यदि पाँव की प्रमार्जना न की जाए तो बारह साल का प्रायश्चित्त मिले । इस कारण, हे गौतम! वो आचार्य उतावले नहीं चल रहे
अब किसी समय सूत्र में बताई विधि से स्थान का संक्रमण करते थे तब हे गौतम ! उस आचार्य के पास कईं दिन की क्षुधा से कमजोर बने शरीरवाला, प्रकट दाढ़ा से भयानक यमराज समान भयभीत करते हुए प्रलयकाल की तरह घोर रूपवाला केसरी सिंह आ पहँचा । महानुभाग गच्छाधिपति ने चिन्तवन किया कि यदि तेजी से उतावले होकर चलूँ तो इस शेर के पंजे में से बच शके, लेकिन नष्ट हो जाना अच्छा है मगर असंयम में काम करना अच्छा नहीं है । ऐसा चिन्तवन करके विधि से वापस आए शिष्य को जिसका वेष लॅट लिया है वो वेश उसे देकर निष्पत्तिकर्म शरीरवाले वो गच्छाधिपति पदापोपगमन अनशन अपनाकर वहाँ खड़े रहे । वो शिष्य भी उसी के अनुसार रहा । अब उस समय अति विशुद्ध अंतःकरणवाले पंचमंगल का स्मरण करते शुभ अध्यवसायपन के योग से वो दोनों को हे गौतम ! सिंह ने मार डाला । इसलिए वो दोनों अंतकृत् केवली बन गए । आँठ तरह के कर्ममल-कलंक रहित वो सिद्ध हुए । अब वो ४९९ साधु उस कर्म के दोष से जिस तरह के दुःख का अहेसास करते थे और फिर से अहेसास करेंगे और अनन्त संसार सागर में परिभ्रमण करेंगे वो सर्व वृत्तान्त काल से भी कहने के लिए कौन समर्थ है ? हे गौतम ! वो ४९९ या जिन्होंने गुणयुक्त महानुभाग गुरु की आज्ञा का उल्लंघन करके आराधना नहीं की वो अनन्त संसारी बने । सूत्र - ८१९
हे भगवंत ! क्या तीर्थंकर की आज्ञा का उल्लंघन न करे या आचार्य की आज्ञा का? हे गौतम ! आचार्य चार तरह के बताए हैं । वो इस प्रकार - नाम आचार्य, स्थापना आचार्य, द्रव्य आचार्य और भाव आचार्य । उसमें जो भावाचार्य हैं उन्हें तीर्थंकर समान मानना । उनकी आज्ञा का उल्लंघन नहीं करना चाहिए।
सूत्र-८२०
हे भगवंत ! वो भावाचार्य कब-से कहलाएंगे? हे गौतम ! आज दीक्षित हआ हो फिर भी आगमविधि से पद को अनुसरण करके व्यवहार करे वो भावाचार्य कहलाते हैं । जो सो साल के दीक्षित होने के बावजूद भी केवल वचन से भी आगम की बाधा करते हैं उनके नाम और स्थापना आचार्य में नियोग करना ।
हे भगवंत ! आचार्य को कितना प्रायश्चित्त लगता है ? जो प्रायश्चित्त एक साधु को मिले वो प्रायश्चित्त

O Bhagvant! Should one not violate the command of the Tirthankar or the command of the Acharya? O Gautam! Acharya has been told of four types. They are as follows - Naam Acharya, Sthapana Acharya, Dravya Acharya and Bhava Acharya. Among them, those who are Bhava Acharya should be considered equal to Tirthankar. O Bhagvant! When will they be called Bhava Acharya? O Gautam! Those who have been initiated today, but still behave by following the position according to the Agam method, they are called Bhava Acharya.
