आगम सूत्र ३९, छेदसूत्र-५, 'महानिशीथ'
अध्ययन/उद्देश/सूत्रांक प्रेक्षण प्रमार्जन नहीं कर सकते थे । पडिलेहण करते वायुकाय के जीव की विराधना हो वैसे वस्त्र सूखाते थे कितना कहना ? हे गौतम ! उसका वर्णन कितना करे?
अठ्ठारह हजार शीलांग, सत्तरह तरह के संयम बाह्य और अभ्यंतर बारह प्रकार के तप, क्षमा, आदि और अहिंसा लक्षण युक्त दश प्रकार के श्रमण धर्म को आदि के एक एक पद को कईं बार लम्बे अरसे तक पढ़कर याद करके दोनों अंग रूप महाश्रतस्कंध जिन्होंने स्थिर-परिचित किए हैं। कई भाँगाओं और सैकडों जोडाण दःख से करके जिन्होंने सिखे हैं, निरतिचार चारित्रधर्म का पालन किया है । यह सब जिस प्रकार कहा है वो नि से पालन करते थे । वो सब सुनकर उस गच्छाधिपति ने सोचा कि, मेरे परोक्ष में, गेरमोजुदगी में उस दुष्ट शीलवाले शिष्य अज्ञानपन की कारण से अति असंयम सेवन करेंगे वो सर्व असंयम मुझे लगेंगे, क्योंकि मैं उनका गुरु हूँ। इसलिए मैं उनके पीछे जाकर उन्हें प्रेरणा देता हूँ कि जिससे इस असंयम के विषय में मैं प्रायश्चित्त का अधिकारी न बनूँ । ऐसा विकल्प करके वो आचार्य उनके पीछे जितने में गए उतने में तो उन्हें असंयम से और बुरी तरह अविधि से जाते देखा । तब हे गौतम ! अति सुन्दर, मधुर शब्द के आलापपूर्वक गच्छाधिपति ने कहा कि-अरे, उत्तम कुल
और निर्मल वंश के आभूषण समान कुछ-कुछ महासत्त्ववाले साधु ! तुमने उन्मार्ग पाया है, पाँच महाव्रत अंगीकार किए गए देहवाले महाभागशाली साधु-साध्वी के लिए सत्ताईस हजार स्थंडील स्थान सर्वज्ञ भगवंत ने प्ररूपे हैं । श्रुत के उपयोगवाले को उसकी विशुद्धि जाँचनी चाहिए, लेकिन अन्य में उपयोगवाला न बनना चाहिए । तो तुम शून्याशून्य चित्त से अनुपयोग से क्यों चल रहे हो ? तुम्हारी ईच्छा से तुम उसमें उपयोग दो।
दूसरा यह कि तुम यह सूत्र और उसका अर्थ भूल गए हो क्या ? सर्व परम तत्त्व के परमसारभूत तरह का यह सूत्र है । एक साधु एक दो इन्द्रियवाले जानवर को खुद ही हाथ से या पाँव से या दूसरों के पास या शलाका आदि अधिकरण से किसी भी पदार्थभूत उपकरण से संघट्टा करे, करवाए या संघट्टा करनेवाले को सही माने, उससे बाँधा गया कर्म जब उदय में आए तब जैसे यंत्र में इख पीसते हैं वैसे उस कर्म का क्षय हो, यदि गहरे परिणाम से कर्म बाँधा हो तो पापकर्म बारह साल तक भुगते तब वो कर्म खपाए, गहरा परितापन करे तो दश हजार साल तक, उस प्रकार आगाढ़ कीलामणा करे तो दश लाख साल के बाद वो पाप कर्म खपाए और उपद्रव करे यानि मौत के अलावा सारे दुःख दे । वैसा करने से करोड़ साल दुःख भुगतकर पाप-कर्म क्षय कर सकते हैं। उसी प्रकार तीन इन्द्रियवाले जीव के बारे में भी समझना । तुम इतना समझ सकते हो इसलिए घबराना मत ।
हे गौतम ! उसी प्रकार सूत्रानुसार आचार्य सारणा करने के बावजूद भी महा पापकर्मी, चलने की व्याकुलता में एक साथ सब उतावले होकर वो सर्व पाप कर्म ऐसे आँठ कर्म के दुःख से मुक्त करनेवाला ऐसा आचार्य का वचन बहुमान्य नहीं करते । तब हे गौतम ! वो आचार्य समज गए की जरुर यह शिष्य उन्मार्ग में प्रयाण कर रहे हैं, सर्व तरह से पापजातिवाले और मेरे दुष्ट शिष्य हैं, तो अब मुझे उनके पीछे क्यों खुशामत के शब्द बोलते -बोलते अनुसरण करूँ ? यह तो जल रहित सुखी नदी के प्रवाह में बहना जैसा है । यह सब भले ही दश द्वार से चले जाए, मैं तो अब मेरे आत्म के हित की साधना करूँगा । दूसरे किए हए काफी बड़े पुण्य के समूह से मेरा अल्प भी रक्षण होगा क्या? आगम में बताए तप और अनुष्ठान के द्वारा अपने पराक्रम से ही भवसागर पार कर सकेंगे। तीर्थंकर भगवंत का यही आदेश है। सूत्र-८१७
या आत्महित करना और यदि मुमकीन हो तो परहित भी जरुर करना । आत्महित और परहित दोनों करने का समय हो तो पहले आत्महित की साधना करनी चाहिए। सूत्र-८१८

You have found the wrong path, the five great vows have been accepted, the great fortunate beings with bodies, the omniscient Bhagvant has made a model for twenty-seven thousand Sthandeel places. The one who uses the Shruti should examine its purity, but should not become a user in others. So why are you walking with a zero-zero mind, with non-use? Use it in it with your desire.
Secondly, have you forgotten this Sutra and its meaning? This Sutra is of the most essential kind of all the ultimate principles. If a sadhu himself hits a two-sense animal with his hand or foot or with others or with a stick etc. instrument, causes it to be hit or considers the one who hits it to be right, the karma bound by it when it arises, then just as the flour is ground in the machine, the karma is destroyed, if the karma is bound by deep consequences, then the sinful karma is suffered for twelve years, then that karma is consumed, if it is deeply afflicted, then for ten thousand years, if it is deeply nailed, then after ten lakh years that sinful karma is consumed and it causes trouble, that is, it gives all the sorrows except death. By doing so, they can consume sinful karma by suffering for crores of years. Understand the same way about the three-sense being. You can understand this much, so don't be afraid.
O Gautam! In the same way, even after the Acharya's Sarana, the great sinners, in the restlessness of walking, all of them become hasty together, they do not respect the Acharya's word, which is such that it liberates from the sorrows of the eight karmas. Then, O Gautam! The Acharya understood that surely this disciple is traveling on the wrong path, he is a sinner of all kinds and my wicked disciple, so why should I follow him now by speaking flattering words? This is like flowing in the flow of a dry, happy river. Even if all these go through the ten doors, I will now practice for the benefit of my soul. Secondly, will my little bit be protected by the group of great merits that I have done? This is the order of the Tirthankar Bhagvant. Sutra-817
