आगम सूत्र ३९, छेदसूत्र-५, 'महानिशीथ'
अध्ययन/उद्देश/सूत्रांक बताए हैं, कर्म ऐसे उन्होंने बाकी अन्य भव में माया की थी उस निमित्त से बाँधे हुए इस कर्म का उदय हुआ है।
हे भगवंत ! अन्य भव में उस महानुभाव ने किस तरह माया की, जिससे ऐसा भयानक कर्मोदय हुआ? हे गौतम ! उस गच्छाधिपति का जीव लाख भव के पहले सामान्य राजा की पुत्री के रूप में उत्पन्न हुई । किसी समय शादी के बाद तुरन्त उसका भर्तार मर गया । तब उसके पिताने राजकुमारी को कहा कि, हे भद्रे ! मैं तुम्हें अपने गाँव में से पचास राज्य देता हूँ। उस की आमदनी में से तुम्हारी इच्छा के अनुसार अंधो को, आधे अंगवाले को, जो चल नहीं सकते ऐसे अपंग को, काफी व्याधि वेदना से व्याप्त शरीरवाले को, सभी लोगों से पराभवित, दारिद्र, दुःख, शरीरसीबी से कलंकित लोगों को, जन्म से ही दरिद्र हो उनको, श्रमण को, श्रावक को, बेचैन को, रिश्तेदारों को, जिस किसी को जो इष्ट हो ऐसे भोजन, पानी, वस्त्र यावत् धन, धान्य, सुवर्ण, हिरण्य या समग्र सुख देनेवाले, सम्पूर्ण दया करके अभयदान दो । जिससे भवान्तर में भी सभी लोगों को अप्रियकारिणी सबको पराभव करने के स्थानभूत तुं न बने । और सुवास, पुष्पमाला, तंबोल, विलेपन, अंगराग आदि इच्छा के अनुसार भोग और उपभोग के साधन रहित बने, अपूर्ण मनोरथवाली, दुःख जन्म देनेवाली बीबी वंध्या रंडा आदि दुःखवाली न बने।
तब हे गौतम ! उसने तहत्ति करके उस बात को अपनाइ । लेकिन नेत्र से हड़ हड़ करते अश्रुजल से जिसका कपोल का हिस्सा धुल रहा है । खोखरी आवाज में कहने लगी कि ज्यादा बोलने मैं नहीं जानती । यहाँ से आप जाकर जल्द काष्ठ की बड़ी चित्ता बनवाओ कि जिससे मेरे शरीर को उसमें डूबो दूँ । पापिणी ऐसी मुझे अब जीने का कोई प्रयोजन नहीं है । शायद कर्म परिणति को आधीन होकर महापापी स्त्री के चंचल स्वभाव के कारण से आपके इस असामान्य प्रसिद्ध नामवाले पूरे संसार में जिसकी कीर्ति और पवित्र यश भरा हुआ है ऐसे आप के कुल को शायद दाग लगानेवाली बनूँ । यह मेरे निमित्त से अपना सर्व कुल मलीन हो जाए उसके बाद उस राजाने चिन्तवन की कि - वाकइ मैं अधन्य हूँ कि अपुत्रवाले ऐसे मुजे ऐसी रत्न समान बेटी मिले । अहो ! इस बालिका का विवेक । अहो उसकी बुद्धि ! अहो उसकी प्रज्ञा ! अहो उसका वैराग ! अहो उसके कुल को दाग लगानेवाला भीरूपन ! अहो समचुम हर पल यह बालिका वंदनीय है, जिसके ऐसे महान गुण है तो जब तक वो मेरे घर में रहेगी तब तक मेरा महा कल्याण होगा । उसको देखने से, स्मरण करने से, उसके साथ बोलने से आत्मा निर्मल होगा, तो पुत्र रहित मुजको यह पुत्री पुत्रतुल्य है - ऐसा सोचकर राजाने कहा कि -
हे पुत्री ! हमारे कुल की रसम के अनुसार काष्ट की चित्ता में रंड़ापा नहीं होता । तो तू शील और श्रावकधर्म रूप चारित्र का पालन कर, दान दे, तुम्हारी ईच्छा के अनुसार पौषध उपवास आदि कर और खास करके जीवदया के काम कर । यह राज्य भी तुम्हारा ही है । उसके बाद हे गौतम ! पिताके इस प्रकार कहने के बाद चित्ता में गिरना बन्द रखके मौन रही। फिर पिताने अंतःपुर के रक्षपाल सेवक को सौंप दिया । उस अनुसार समय बीतने से किसी समय वो राजा मर गया । एक महाबुद्धिशाली महामंत्रीओने इकट्ठे होकर तय किया कि इस राजकुमारी का ही यहाँ राज्याभिषेक कर दे । फिर राज्याभिषेक किया । हे गौतम ! उसके बाद हररोज सभा मंडप में बैठती थी।
__अब किसी दिन वहाँ राजसभा में कईं बुद्धिजन, विद्यार्थी, भट्ट, तडिंग, मुसद्दी, चतुर, विचक्षण, मंत्रीजन, महंत आदि सैंकड़ो पुरुष से भरी पड़ी इस सभा मंडप के बीच राजसिंहासन पर बैठे कर्मपरिणति के आधीन राजकुमारीने राग सहित अभिलाषावाले नेत्र से उत्तम रूप लावण्य शोभा की संपत्तिवाली जीव सुन्दर ज्ञानवाले एक उत्तम कुमार को देखा । ।
कुमार उसके मनोगत भाव को समझ गया । सोचने लगा कि - मुझे देखकर बेचारी यह राजकुमारी घोर अंधकारपूर्ण और अनन्त दुःखदायक पाताल में पहुँच गई । वाकई मैं अधन्य हूँ कि इस तरह का राग उत्पन्न होने के यंत्र समान, पुदगल समूहवाले मेरे देह को देखकर तीतली की तरह कामदीपक में छलांग लगाता है। अब मैं जी क क्या करूँ ? अब मैं जल्द इस पापी शरीर को वोसीराऊं । इसके लिए काफी दुष्कर प्रायश्चित्त करूँगा।
समग्र संग का त्याग करने के समान समग्र पाप का विनाश करनेवाले अणगार धर्म को अंगीकार करूँगा।

Give them complete compassion and protection. This will prevent you from becoming the cause of unpleasantness and defeat for all beings in future births. And do not become a barren, widowed, unhappy woman, devoid of the means of enjoyment and consumption, such as good fragrance, flower garlands, betel nut, ointments, body adornments, etc., with incomplete desires and a sorrowful birth."
Then, O Gautam! She accepted it with humility. But her cheeks were washed with tears flowing from her eyes, and she said in a hollow voice, "I don't know how to speak much. Go from here and quickly make a large wooden pyre so that I can immerse my body in it. I, a sinner, have no purpose in living now. Perhaps, subject to the fruition of karma, I will become a stain on your lineage, which is renowned throughout the world for its extraordinary name, its fame, and its pure glory, due to the fickle nature of a great sinner like me. My actions might defile your entire lineage." After that, the king thought, "Indeed, I am fortunate to have such a jewel-like daughter, even though I am childless. Oh! The wisdom of this girl! Oh! Her intelligence! Oh! Her knowledge! Oh! Her detachment! Oh! Her form that will stain our lineage! Oh! This girl is worthy of worship every moment, with such great qualities. As long as she remains in my house, my great welfare will be ensured. Seeing her, remembering her, and speaking with her will purify the soul. So, this daughter is like a son to me, who is childless." Thinking this, the king said, "O daughter! According to the customs of our lineage, there is no burning of a widow on a pyre. So, you should follow the path of virtue and the Shravaka dharma, give charity, perform austerities and fasts as you wish, and especially engage in acts of compassion for living beings. This kingdom is also yours." Then, O Gautam! After her father said this, she remained silent, stopping from jumping into the pyre. Then, the father entrusted her to the guards and servants of the inner palace. As time passed, the king died. A wise and great minister, gathering together, decided to crown this princess. Then, she was crowned. O Gautam! After that, she sat in the assembly hall every day.
Now, one day, in that royal assembly, filled with hundreds of men, including wise men, students, Bhattas, Tadingas, Musaddis, clever, discerning, ministers, and Mahants, the princess, subject to the fruition of karma, sitting on the royal throne, saw a handsome young man with beautiful features, radiance, and wealth, with eyes full of desire and passion.
The young man understood her inner feelings. He thought, "This poor princess has fallen into a dark and endless abyss of sorrow because of seeing me. Indeed, I am unfortunate that my body, a machine for generating such desire, a collection of particles, makes me jump into the fire of lust like a moth. What should I do now? I will quickly abandon this sinful body. I will perform severe penance for this.
I will embrace the Aṇagāra dharma, which destroys all sins, just as it abandons all possessions."
