आगम सूत्र ३९, छेदसूत्र-५, 'महानिशीथ'
अध्ययन/उद्देश/सूत्रांक गम्भीर स्वरवाले केवलीने कहा कि-हे दुष्करकारिके तु सुन-कि तुम्हारे शरीर का विघटन क्यों हुआ ? तुम्हारा शरीर रक्त और पित्त के दोष से दूषित तो था ही और फिर उसमें उस स्निग्ध आहार के साथ मकड़े के जन्तुवाला आहार भरपेट खाया । दूसरी बजह यह भी है कि-इस गच्छ में सेंकड़ो प्रमाण साधु-साध्वी होने के बावजूद, जितने सचित्त पानी से केवल आँखें धो सकते हैं उतने अल्प लेकिन सचित्त जल का गृहस्थ की वजह से कभी भी साधु को भोगवटा नहीं कर सकते । उसके बजाय तुने तो गौमुत्र ग्रहण करने के लिए जाते-जाते जिस के मुख नासिका में से गलते लींट लपेटे हुए थे पर लगे थे । उस वजह से बणबणनेवाली मधुमक्खी उड़ रही थी, ऐसे श्रावक पुत्र के मुख को सचित्त जल से प्रक्षालन किया वैसे सचित्त जल का संघट्टा करने की विराधना की वजह से देव असुर की वंदन करने के लायक अलंघनीय ऐसी गच्छमर्यादा को भी तोड़ दिया ।
प्रवचन देवता यह तुम्हारा अघटित व्यवहार सह न सके या साधु-साध्वी ने प्राण के संशय में भी कूए, तालाब, वावड़ी, नदी आदि के जल को हाथ से छूना न कल्पे । वीतराग परमात्मा ने साधु-साध्वी के लिए सर्वथा अचित्त जल हो तो भी समग्र दोष रहित हो, ऊबाला हुआ हो, उसका ही परिभोग करना कल्पे । इसलिए देवता ने चिन्तवन किया कि इस दुराचारी को इस तरह शिक्षा करूँ कि जिससे उसकी तरह दूसरी किसी भी तरह का आचरण या प्रवृत्ति न करे । ऐसा मानकर कुछ कुछ चूर्ण का योग जब तुम भोजन करते थे तब उन देवताओं ने तुम्हारे भोजन में डाला । उन देवता के किए हुए प्रयोग हम जानने के लिए समर्थ नहीं हो सकते । इस वजह से तुम्हारा शरीर नष्ट हुआ है, लेकिन अचित्त जल पीने से नष्ट नहीं हुआ।
उस वक्त रज्जा-आर्या ने सोचा कि उस प्रकार ही है । केवली के वचन में फर्क नहीं होगा । ऐसा सोचकर केवली ने बिनती की कि-हे भगवंत ! यदि मैं यथोक्त प्रायश्चित्त का सेवन करूँ तो मेरा यह शरीर तब केवली ने प्रत्युत्तर दिया कि यदि कोई प्रायश्चित्त दे तो सुधारा हो सके । रज्जा आर्या ने कहा कि-हे भगवंत ! आप ही मुझे प्रायश्चित्त दो । दूसरे कौन तुम्हारे समान आत्मा है ? तब केवली ने कहा कि हे दुष्करकारिके ! मैं तुम्हें प्रायश्चित्त तो दे सकता हूँ लेकिन तुम्हारे लिए ऐसा कोई प्रायश्चित्त ही नहीं है कि जिससे तुम्हारी शुद्धि हो सके । रज्जा ने पूछा कि हे भगवंत ! किस वजह से मेरी शुद्धि नहीं है? केवली ने कहा कि-तुने जिस साध्वी समुदाय के सामने ऐसा कहा कि अचित्त पानी का उपभोग करने से मेरा शरीर सड़ गया । इस दुष्ट पाप के बड़े समुदाय के एक पिंड़ समान तुम्हारे वचन को सुनकर यह सभी साध्वी के हृदय हिल गए । वो सब सोचने लगे कि अब हम भी अचित्त जल का त्याग कर दे लेकिन उस साध्वीओने तो अशुभ अध्यवसाय की आलोचना निंदा और गुरु साक्षी में गर्हणा कर ली । उन्हें तो मैंने प्रायश्चित्त दे दिया है।
इस प्रकार अचित्त जल-त्याग से और वचन-दोष से काफी कष्टदायक विरस भयानक बद्ध स्पृष्ट निकाचित्त बड़े पाप का ढ़ग तूने उपार्जन किया है और उस पाप समुदाय से तुम कोढ़, व्याधि, भगंदर, जलोदर, वायु, गुमड़, साँस फूलना, हरस, मसा, कंठमाल आदि कईं व्याधि की वेदना से भरे शरीरवाली बनोगी । फिर दरिद्र के दुःख, दुर्भाग्य, अपयश, झूठे आरोप, कलंक लगाना, संताप, उद्वेग, क्लेशादि से हमेशा जलनेवाली ऐसी अनन्त भव तक काफी लम्बे अरसे तक, जैसा दिन में वैसा लगातार रात को दुःख भुगतना पड़ेगा, इस वजह से हे गौतम ! यह वो रज्जा-आर्या अगीतार्थपन के दोष से केवल वचन से ही ऐसे महान दुःखदायक पापकर्म का उपार्जन करनेवाली हई सूत्र-११४४-११४६
अगीतार्थपन के दोष से भावशद्धि प्राप्त नहीं होती, भावविशुद्धि बिना मुनि कलुषता युक्त मनवाला होता है। दिल में काफी कम छोटे प्रमाण में भी यदि कलुषता, मलीनता, शल्य, माया रहे हों तो अगीतार्थपन के दोष से जैसे लक्ष्मणा देवी साध्वी ने दुःख की परम्परा खड़ी की, वैसे अगीतार्थपन के दोष से भव की और दुःख की परम्परा खड़ी की, इसलिए समझदार पुरुष को सर्वथा भाव से सर्वथा वो समझकर गीतार्थ बनकर मन को कलुषता रहित बनाना चाहिए।

If I perform the appropriate prāyaścitta, will my body be restored?" The Kevali replied, "If someone performs prāyaścitta, then they can be purified." Rajjā-Āryā said, "O Bhagavant! You are the one who should give me prāyaścitta. Who else is like you?" Then the Kevali said, "O Duṣkarakārike! I can give you prāyaścitta, but there is no prāyaścitta that can purify you." Rajjā asked, "O Bhagavant! Why can I not be purified?" The Kevali said, "You said in front of the sādhvī community that your body rotted because you consumed achit water. Hearing your words, which are like a lump of this wicked sin, the hearts of all the sādhvīs were shaken. They all began to think, 'Now we too must give up achit water.' But those sādhvīs criticized, condemned, and condemned the bad resolution in the presence of the guru. I have given them prāyaścitta.

Thus, you have earned a great sin, which is very painful, dull, frightening, bound, and clearly manifested, because of giving up achit water and because of your words. Because of that community of sin, you will become afflicted with leprosy, disease, fistula, dropsy, wind, swelling, shortness of breath, asthma, warts, goiter, and many other diseases. Then, you will suffer the pain of poverty, misfortune, disgrace, false accusations, slander, grief, anxiety, and distress for a very long time, even for countless births. You will suffer as much in the night as you do in the day. Therefore, O Gautama! This Rajjā-Āryā, because of the sin of agītārthapan, has earned such a great and painful sin simply by her words. Sūtra-1144-1146.

The sin of agītārthapan does not lead to bhāvaśuddhi. Without bhāvaśuddhi, a muni is polluted in mind.
