Verses 99, 100
space, he is unable to move his body parts, has to live with bodily worms, and remains ever afraid of the pain in being born. O the one, born! You are afraid of death. It appears to me that since you have already experienced the pain in being born, and since you know that death entails new birth, therefore, you are afraid of death.
अजाकृपाणीयमनुष्ठितं त्वया विकल्पमुग्धेन भवादितः पुरा । यदत्र किञ्चित्सुखरूपमाप्यते तदार्य विद्ध्यन्धकवर्तकीयम्
॥१००॥
अर्थ – हे आर्य! तूने इस (सम्यग्दर्शनयुक्त) भव से पहले संसार में हेय
और उपादेय के विचार में मूढ़ होकर अजाकृपाणीय के समान कार्य किया है। यहाँ जो कुछ सुखरूप सामग्री प्राप्त होती है वह अन्धक-वर्तकीय न्याय से ही प्राप्त होती है।
O noble man! Before your present life, marked by right faith (samyagdarśana), you had acted like the ‘ajākrpāṇīya'*, without pondering over what needed to be accepted and rejected in this world. Whatever little objects of happiness you got were obtained by the logic of ‘andhaka-vartakīya'**.
* 'ajākrpāṇīya'- A man took a she-goat for killing but could not find a knife. The she-goat started digging the surrounding earth and, by
chance, a knife was found there. The she-goat was killed. ** 'andhaka-vartakiya' - A blind man spreads his hands and, by chance, catches a sparrow.
