Dīmādṛṣṭi: Bhavābhinandī Niṣphalārambhī
(297) He is, and he thinks "I am reading and deceiving the world," but in reality, he himself is being deceived, he is practicing self-deception, and he does not know this.
"For the sake of covering up faults, I perform Jain rituals, I do not walk the path of faults, the beloved one from beginningless time..." - Shri Devacandrajī
He is ignorant, that is, he is foolish, devoid of the awareness of good and bad, confused, and without discrimination.
And being endowed with such characteristics, he is an unsuccessful initiator, meaning that all his undertakings are fruitless and ineffective, because his entire activity is imbued with attachment to external objects, due to which, due to the false attachment in the form of the belief in the reality of substances, his entire activity, etc. does not become effective, does not bear fruit, the undertakings become futile, go in vain. All his done and made turns to dust, goes into water. "The blind weaves and the calf chews" - it becomes like this for him. Thus, all his undertakings and beginnings become fruitless, he only suffers from futile grief and false effort. His entire activity without pure faith becomes like "smearing on ashes." "Know that the activity done without pure faith is like smearing on ashes." - Shri Ānandaghanajī
"As a faithless man, after doing some good deeds, laughs at the end when he does not get the desired fruit, so the foolish living being, after doing some meritorious deeds, in the end suffers the bitter fruit." - Shri Banārāsīdāsajī
Thus, all his activity, all his undertakings become fruitless, and not only that, but his spiritual activity is also equally fruitless from the standpoint of the ultimate truth. Because this spiritual activity in the form of religious activity arises from the cloud-like dispassion, it generates the passion of attachment to the cycle of birth and death. And the merit that is acquired from it is also ultimately bound to be fruitless, that is, that merit is merit bound to sin. And thus, the living beings who are attached to the cycle of birth and death, for them, the merit that exists is without bondage, and the sin that exists is with bondage. Therefore, the series of merit does not continue, and the series of sin continues.
