और परलोक में रक्षा के लिए या शरण देने के लिए तैयार नहीं होते । प्राणी ममता के वशीभूत होकर स्वजन - पुत्र आदि का पालन-पोषण करता है, उनके लिए अनेक प्रकार से कष्ट भी पाता है, किन्तु उस पर जब कोई आफत या संकट आ पड़े या किसी मुसीबत में फँस जाय या देवयोग से कोई मानसिक संताप आ पड़े, तब वे पुत्रादि स्वजन आँखें फेर लेते हैं; मुँह मोड़ लेते हैं, न वे रक्षा के लिए आते हैं, न उसको आश्रय ही देते हैं । जब वे इस लोक में अपने बनकर रक्षा और आश्रय नहीं दे सकते; तब परलोक (स्वर्गादि) में तो वे रक्षक एवं शरणदाता हो ही कैसे सकते हैं? सब अपनी-अपनी स्वार्थसिद्धि में तन्मय हैं, यह सब जानते हुए भी स्वत्त्व मोहवश अज्ञानी बनकर उन्हीं का पोषण करता रहता है, अपना कुछ भी नहीं करता ॥१०॥ ममत्त्वेन बहून् लोकान् पुष्णात्येकोऽर्जितैर्धनैः । सोढा नरकदुःखानां तीव्राणामेक एव तु ॥११॥
भावार्थ : ममत्त्ववश मनुष्य स्वयं अकेला ही धन कमाकर उससे अनेक लोगों का पालन-पोषण करता है, किन्तु, उसके परिणामस्वरूप नरक के तीव्र दुःखों को भोगता है वह अकेला ही । यह पुत्र, परिवार आदि मेरा है, इनको जरा भी तकलीफ न हो, ऐसा सोचकर किसी की सहायता लिये बिना अकेला ही धन कमा - कमा कर उससे अनेक लोगों का पोषण अधिकार आठवां
