भावार्थ : यह मेरी मां है, यह मेरा भाई है, यह मेरी बहन है, यह मेरी प्रिया है, ये मेरे पुत्र-पुत्रियाँ हैं, ये मेरे मित्र हैं; ये जातिबन्धु हैं, ये मेरे पूर्वपरिचित हैं । इस प्रकार संसार में ज्यों-ज्यों मनुष्य बड़ा होता जाता है, त्यों-त्यों ममता आगे से आगे बढ़ती जाती है ॥७॥ इत्येवं ममताव्याधिं वर्धमानं प्रतिक्षणम् । जनः शक्नोति नोच्छेत्तुं विना ज्ञानमहौषधम् ॥८॥
भावार्थ : इस प्रकार ममतारूपी व्याधि प्रतिक्षण बढ़ती ही जाती है। ज्ञानरूपी महौषध के बिना मनुष्य इस ममता की बीमारी को नहीं मिटा सकता ॥८॥ ममत्वेनैव निःशंकमारम्भादौ प्रवर्तते । कालाकालसमुत्थायी धनलोभेन धावति ॥९॥
भावार्थ : प्राणी इस ममता के कारण ही निःशंक होकर आरम्भ-समारम्भ आदि में पड़ता है। धन के ममत्त्वरूप लोभ के कारण व्यक्ति योग्य-अयोग्य सभी समय उठकर दौड़धूप करता रहता है ॥९॥ स्वयं येषां च पोषाय खिद्यते ममतावशः । इहामुत्र च ते न स्युस्त्राणाय शरणाय वा ॥१०॥
भावार्थ : स्वयं ममता के वश होकर जिनके भरणपोषण के लिए मनुष्य रात-दिन खिन्न रहता है; वे इस लोक ७८
