composed during the spiritual reign of Jinarăja Säri of the Kharatara Gaccha, who died in Sar. 1699. His Aştalakşarthi, also called Artharatnávali, comfosed in San. 1646, sbows his wonderful command of the Sanskrit language. It consists of a single line namely, rājāno dadate saukhyam', interpreted so as to yield eight lacs of different senses! An exhaustive list of Samayasundara's Sanskrit, Prakrit and Gujarati works and their datos is given at p. 60 of the Introduction to Dalal's Catalogue of the M8s, in the Jesalmir Bhandar published in the Gaek. O. Series, no. XXI, Baroda, 1923. His lucid Kālikācāryakathā, which is published in the present edition, was composed in Sam. 1666. Besides his works on Jainism, Samaya
sundara is known to have written commentaries on two non-jaia works tamoly, the Vittaratnakara A and the Raghuvama.
The editor of this work, Mani Mangalagagara has evidently taken great pains in seeing it through ke the proe. In the Proface, he tells us that he used seven manuscripts for the text and two more for the
commentary, His aim however, seems to be only to give us what he believes to be the original and correct form of the text and the cotamentary. Shastri Hal, Bombay 7.
