________________ > આદર્શ મુનિ *^^^^ ^^^ લેખ કરતાં પણ અહીંના સ્તૂપ કેટલાંય સૈકાં વિશેષ પુરાણા છે. આ બાબતમાં કુહરર સાહેબ લખે છે - The Stupa was so ancient that at the time when the inscription was incised, its origin had been forgotten. On the evidence of the characters, the date of the inscription may be referred with certainty to the Indo-Scythian era ani is equivalent to A. D. 156. The Stupa must therefore have been built several Centuries before the beginning of the Christian era, for the name of its builders would assuredly have been known if it had been erected during the period when the Jains of Mathura carefully kept record of their donations." (Museum Report 1890-91.) “અર્થા–આ સ્તૂપ એટલો પ્રાચીન હતો કે જ્યારે આ લેખ આલેખવામાં આવ્યો ત્યારે સ્વપ વિગેરેને વૃત્તાન્ત લાકે વીસરી ગયા હતા. લિપિના પ્રમાણથી આ લેખને સમય ઈડેસિથિયન (શક) સંવત હેાય એમ માલુમ પડે છે જે ઉપરથી આ લેખ ઈ. સ. ૧૫ની લગભગનો છે એમ સિદ્ધ થાય છે. આ ઉપરથી એ સ્પષ્ટ થાય છે કે આ સ્તૂપ ઈસુની પહેલાંની કેટલીય સદીઓ પૂર્વે બંધાયે હોવો જોઈએ, કેમકે મથુરા નગરીના જેને જ્યારે પોતાનાં દાનની સંભાળપૂર્વક યાદી રાખતા હતા તે સમયે જે તે બંધાયે હોત તે તેના બંધાવનારનાં નામ અવશ્ય જાણું શકાત.”
