स्वसमय वक्तव्यताधिकारः क्रिया निरर्थक सिद्ध होती है । इस शब्द की एक व्याख्या और है । "पासत्था" पद में आये 'पास' शब्द को पार्श्व के बदले जब पास के रूप में लेते हैं तो उसका अर्थ यह होता है कि यो पास के समान है, पास में अवस्थित है, वे पास कहे जाते हैं । 'पास' का अर्थ कर्मबंधन है । यहां प्रस्तुत विषय युक्ति वर्जित नियतिवाद का प्रतिपादन है । उसमें स्थित नियतिवादी पासत्थ है-कर्मबंध से जकड़े हुए हैं । अन्य वादी, जो एकान्त रूप से काल एवं ईश्वर आदि में ही सबका कर्तृत्व स्वीकार करते हैं वे भी पार्श्वस्थ या पासत्थ है, ऐसा समझना चाहिये। नियतिवादी यद्यपि यह मानते हैं कि सब कुछ नियति से ही फलित होता है । फिर भी वे तरह तरह वैसी क्रियाएं करने में प्रवृत रहते हैं जिनका परलोक साधने से संबंध है । यह उनकी कितनी बड़ी धृष्टताढीठपन है । यह कितनी भारी धृष्टता व दुराग्रह है कि नियतिवादी सब कुछ नियति से ही होता है, इस सिद्धान्त को स्वीकार किये हुए है पर क्रियाएं ऐसी करते हैं जो सिद्धान्त से विपरीत है । अतएव परलोक को साधने वाली तथाकथित धर्म क्रियाओं में संलग्न होते हुए भी वे अपनी आत्मा को दु:ख से नहीं छुड़ा सकते । कारण यह है कि वे सम्यक्-सत्श्रद्धान युक्त ज्ञान पूर्वक क्रिया में संलग्न नहीं हैं । अतः वे अपनी आत्मा को दुः ख से मुक्त नहीं कर सकते । नियतिवाद का विवेचन समाप्त होता है ।
जविणो मिगा जहा संता, परिताणेण वजिआ । असंकियाई संकंति, संकिआई असंकिणो ॥६॥ परियाणि आणि संकेता, पासिताणि असंकिणो ।
अण्णाणभयसंविग्गा संपलिंति तहिं तहिं ॥७॥ छाया - जविनोमृगा यथा सन्तः परित्राणेन वर्जिताः ।
अशङ्कितानि शङ्कन्ते शङ्कितान्यशङ्किनः ॥ परित्राणि तानि शंकमानाः पाशितान्यशङ्किनः ।
अज्ञानभयसंविग्नाः सम्पर्य्ययन्ते तत्र तत्र ॥ अनुवाद - वे मृग जो रक्षक रहित है अत्यन्त चपलता युक्त हैं । जिन स्थानों में शंका नहीं की जानी चाहिये, जहां कोई भय आशंकित नहीं है, वहां शंका करते हैं और जहां भय की आशंका है वहां भय नहीं करते । इस प्रकार सुरक्षित स्थान में आशंकित रहने वाले और पासयुक्त-बन्धन युक्त स्थान में अनाशंकित रहने वाले अज्ञानयुक्त भयोद्विग्न मृग अपनी भ्रांति के कारण पासयुक्त स्थान में ही गिरते हैं उसी प्रकार अन्य दर्शनों में विश्वास करने वाले रक्षायुक्त-अनेकांत सिद्धान्त जैसे रक्षा के कवच से युक्त धर्म या दर्शन को छोड़कर एकान्तवाद का आश्रय लेते हैं जो उनके लिये अनर्थकारी सिद्ध होता है।
