श्री सूत्रकृताङ्ग सूत्रम् छाया - ऊर्ध्वमधस्तिर्यग्दिशासु, त्रसाश्च ये स्थावरा ये च प्राणाः ।
सदा यतस्तेषु परिव्रजेत् मनाक् प्रद्वेषमविकम्पमानः ॥ अनुवाद - ऊर्ध्व, अधस्तात, तथा तिर्यक् दिशाओं में जो त्रस एवं स्थावर प्राणी विद्यमान हैंरहते हैं साधु सदैव उनका ध्यान रखता हुआ संयम पालन में उद्यत रहे । वह उनके प्रति जरा भी द्वेष न करता हुआ, अपनी साधना में अविचल रहे ।
___टीका - शिक्षको हि गुरुकुलवासितया जिनवचनाभिज्ञो भवति, तत्कोविदश्च सम्यक्मूलोत्तरगुणान् जानाति, तत्र मूलगुणानधिकृत्याह-ऊर्ध्वमधस्तिर्यग् दिक्षु विदिक्षु चेत्यनेन क्षेत्रमङ्गीकृत प्राणातिपात विरतिरभिहिता, द्रव्यतस्तु दर्शयति-त्रस्यन्तीति त्रसा:-तेजो वायू द्वीन्द्रियादयश्च, तथा ये च स्थावराः-स्थावर नामकर्मोदयवर्तिनः पृथिव्यव्वनस्पतयः, तथा ये चैतद्भेदाः सूक्ष्मबादरपर्याप्तका पर्याप्तक रूपा दशविधप्राणधारणात्प्राणिनस्तेषु, 'सदा' सर्वकालम्, अनेन तु कालमधिकृत्य विरतिरभिहिता, यतः परिव्रजेत्-परिसमन्ताद् व्रजेत् संयमानुष्ठायी भवेत्, भावप्राणातिपातविरतिं दर्शयति स्थावरजङ्गमेषु प्राणिषु तदपकारे उपकारे वा मनागपि मनसा प्रद्वेषं न गच्छेद्आस्तांतावदुर्वचनदण्डप्रहारादिकं, तेष्वपकारिष्वपि मनसाऽपि नामङ्गलं चिन्तयेद्, 'अविकम्पमानः' संयमादचलन् सदाचार मनुपालयेदिति, तदेवं योगत्रिककरणत्रिकेण द्रव्यक्षेत्र कालभावरूपां प्राणातिपातविरतिं सम्यगरक्तद्विष्टतयाऽनुपालयेद्, एवं शेषाण्यपि महाव्रतान्युत्तरगुणांश्च ग्रहणासेवनाशिक्षासमन्वितः सम्यगनुपालयेदिति ॥१४॥
टीकार्थ - शिष्य गुरुकुल में निवास करने से जिनवचनों वचनों से-जिनेन्द्र की वाणी से अभिज्ञ हो जाता है-ज्ञाता हो जाता है, वैसा होकर वह मूल गुणों और उत्तर गुणों को भली भांति जान लेता है । वहां मूल गुणों को अधिकृत कर सूत्रकार प्रतिपादित करते हैं-यहां पर उर्ध्व, अधस्तात् तथा तिर्यक् दिशाओं एवं विदिशाओं में स्थित प्राणियों के प्राणातिपात-हिंसा से विरत होने का, हिंसा का परित्याग करने का अभिधान किया है-उपदेश दिया है, यह क्षेत्र को अंगीकृत कर कहा गया है । अब द्रव्य की दृष्टि से प्राणातिपात से विरत होने का दिग्दर्शन कराते हैं । जो त्रस्त होते हैं-भयभीत होते है, उन्हें त्रस कहा जाता है । वे अग्नि, वायु तथा द्वीइन्द्रिय आदि प्राणी हैं तथा जो स्थावर नाम कर्म के उदयवर्ती हैं जैसे पृथ्वी, जल तथा वनस्पति एवं सूक्ष्म, बादर, पर्याप्त, अपर्याप्त के रूप में उनके भेद स्थावर कहलाते हैं-येदशविध प्राणधारण करने से प्राणी कहलाते हैं । उनके प्रति सदैव संयमाचरणशील रहे, उनको पीड़ा न दे । यहां काल को अधिकृत कर विरति का उपदेश दिया है । भाव प्राणातिपात से विरत होने की दृष्टि से कहते हैं-स्थावर तथा जंगम प्राणी उपकार करे-भला करे अथवा अपकार करे-बुरा करे, लाभ पहुंचावे या हानि पहुंचावे किंतु साधु उनके प्रति जरा भी अपने मन में द्वेष न लावे । फिर उन्हें दुर्वचन-कठोर वचन कहना और डंडे से पीटना आदि की तो बात ही क्या है । वे यदि बुरा भी करे तो मन से भी उनका अमंगल-अशुभ या बुरा न सोचे । इस प्रकार संयम में अविचलित रहता हुआ साधु सदाचार का अनुपालन करे एवं पूर्वोक्त रूप से मन, वचन, काय रूप तीन योग तथा कृतकारित एवं अनुमोदित रूप तीन करण द्वारा द्रव्य, क्षेत्र व काल एवं भाव मूलक प्राणातिपात विरति का साधु राग तथा द्वेष से अतीत होकर परिपालन करे । ग्रहण एवं आसेवन शिक्षा से युक्त होकर वह बाकी के महाव्रतों का एवं उत्तर गुणों का वह सम्यक् अनुपालन करे।
