श्री सूत्रकृताङ्ग सूत्रम् छाया - हस्तीष्वैरावणमाहुजतिं, सिंहो मृगाणां सलिलानां गङ्गा ।
पक्षिषु वा गरुड़ो वेणुदेवो, निर्वाणवादिनामिह ज्ञातपुत्रः ॥ - अनुवाद - हस्तीवृन्द में ऐरावण, जन्तुओं में सिंह, सरिताओं में गंगा तथा पक्षियों में वेणुदेव गरुड़ ज्ञात है-सुप्रसिद्ध है, उसी प्रकार समस्त निर्वाण वादियों में-मोक्ष वादी सैद्धान्तिकों में भगवान महावीर प्रसिद्धश्रेष्ठ हैं।
टीका – 'हस्तिषु' करिवरेषु मध्ये यथा ऐरावणं' शक्रवाहनं ज्ञातं' प्रसिद्धं दृष्टान्तभूतं वा प्रधानमाहुस्तज्ज्ञाः 'मृगाणां' च श्वापदानां मध्ये यथा 'सिंहः' केशरी प्रधान तथा भरतक्षेत्रापेक्षया 'सलिलाणां' मध्ये यथा गङ्गासलिले प्रधानभाव मनुभवति, पक्षिषु' मध्ये यथा गरुत्मान् वेणुदेवापरनामा प्राधान्येन व्यवस्थित एवं निर्वाणं-सिद्धिक्षेत्राख्यं कर्मच्युतिलक्षणं वा स्वरूपतस्तदुपायप्राप्तिहेतुतो वा वदितुं शीलं येषां ते तथा तेषां मध्ये ज्ञाता:-क्षत्रियास्तेषां पुत्रः-अपत्यं ज्ञातपुत्रः श्रीमन्महावीरवर्धमानस्वामी स प्रधान इति, यथावस्थितनिर्वाणार्थवादित्वादित्यर्थः।२१॥
टीकार्थ - जो बुद्धिमान पुरुष संसार की मुख्य-मुख्य वस्तुओं को जानते हैं वे हाथियों में जगत्प्रसिद्ध या दृष्टान्त स्वरूप इन्द्र के वाहन ऐरावण को सर्वोत्तम कहते हैं, जन्तुओं के मध्य केसरी सिंह सर्वोपरि है, भरत क्षेत्र की अपेक्षा सब जलों में गंगा का जल उत्तम है, पक्षियों में जैसे वेणुदेव संज्ञक गरुड़ मुख्य है, उसी प्रकार मोक्षवादी जनों में-सैद्धान्तिकों में भगवान महावीर सर्वोत्तम हैं । निर्वाण सिद्धि क्षेत्र को कहा जाता है। अथवा कर्मच्युति-कर्मक्षय का नाम निर्वाण है । उसके स्वरूप और साधनोंपाय द्वारा जो उसे पाने का मार्ग बताते हैं वे निर्वाणवादी कहे जाते हैं । उनके बीच ज्ञात क्षत्रिय कुलोत्पन्न भगवान महावीर वर्धमानस्वामी प्रधान हैं, क्योंकि वे निर्वाण-मोक्ष के वास्तविक स्वरूप का प्रतिपादन करते हैं ।
जोहेसु णाए जह वीससेणे, पुप्फेसु वा जह अरविंद माहु । खत्तीण सेढे जह दंतवक्के, इसीण सेढे तह वद्धमाणे ॥२२॥ छाया - योधेषु ज्ञातो यथा विश्वसेनः, पुष्पेषु वा यथाऽरविन्दमाहुः ।
क्षत्रियाणां श्रेष्ठो यथा दान्तवाक्यः, ऋषीणां श्रेष्ठस्तथा वर्धमानः । अनुवाद - जैसे योद्धाओं में पराक्रमी जनों में विश्वसेन चक्रवर्ती प्रधान है, पुष्पों में अरविन्द-कमल को उत्तम कहा जाता है, क्षत्रियों में दान्तवाक्य-चक्रवर्ती मुख्य है, उत्तम है, उसी प्रकार ऋषियों-दृष्टाओं या ज्ञानियों में श्री वर्धमान स्वामी उत्तम हैं।
टीका - योधेषु मध्ये 'ज्ञातो' विदितो दृष्टान्तभूतो वाविश्वा-हस्त्यश्वरथपदातिचतुरङ्गबलसमेता सेना यस्य स विश्वसेनः-चक्रवती यथाऽसौ प्रधानः, पुष्पेषु च मध्ये यथा अरविन्दं प्रधानमाहुः, तथा क्षातात् त्रायन्त इति क्षत्रियाः तेषां मध्ये दान्ता-उपशान्ता यस्य वाक्येनैव शत्रवः स दान्तवाक्य:-चक्रवर्ती यथाऽ श्रेष्ठः । तदेवं बहन दृष्टान्तान प्रशस्तान प्रदाधना भगवन्तं दाान्तिकं स्वनामग्राहमाह-तथा ऋषिणां मध्ये श्रीमान् वर्धमानस्वामी श्रेष्ठ इति ॥२२॥ तथा -
