पंचम नरकविभक्ति अध्ययन
प्रथम उद्देशकः पुच्छिस्सऽहं केवलियं महेसिं, कहं भितावाणरगा पुरत्था ? । अजाणओ मे मुणि बूहि जाणं, कहिं नु बाला नरयं उविंति ? ॥१॥ छाया - पृष्टवानह कवालन महाष, कथमाभतापाः नरकाः पुरस्तात् ।
अजानतो मे मुने ! ब्रूहि जानन्, कथं नु बालाः नरकमुपयान्ति ॥ अनुवाद - आर्य सुधर्मा स्वामी अपने अन्तेवासी जम्बू से कहते हैं कि मैंने केवली-सर्वज्ञ, महर्षिवीतराग प्रभु महावीर से पहले यह पूछा था कि नरक में प्राणी किस प्रकार पीड़ा प्राप्त करते हैं, प्रभु मैं यह नहीं जानता, आप सम्यक जानते हैं । इसलिए आप मुझे यह बतलाये तथा यह भी प्रतिपादित करें कि अज्ञ प्राणी किस प्रकार नरक को प्राप्त करते हैं। .
टीका - जम्बूस्वामिना सुधर्मस्वामी पृष्टः, तद्यथा-भगवन् ! किंभूता नरकाः ? कैर्वा कर्मभिरसुमतां तेषूत्पादः ? कीदृश्यो वा तत्रत्या वेदना ? इत्येवं पृष्टः सुधर्मस्वाम्याह-यदेतद्भवताऽहं पृष्टस्तदेत् 'केवलिनम्' अतीतानागतवर्तमानसूक्ष्मव्यवहितपदार्थवेदिनं 'महर्षिम्' उग्रतपश्चरणकारिणमनुकूलप्रतिकूलोपसर्गसहिष्णुं 'श्रीमन्महावीरवर्धमानस्वामिनं' पुरस्तात्पूर्वं पृष्टवानहमस्मि, यथा 'कथं' किम्भूता अमितापान्विता 'नरका' नरकावासा भवन्तीत्येतदजानातो 'मे' मम हे मुने 'जानन्' सर्वमेव केवलज्ञानेनावगच्छन् 'ब्रूहि ' कथय, कथं नु' केन प्रकारेण किमनुष्ठायिनो नुरिति वितकें 'बाला' अज्ञा हिताहितप्रप्तिपरिहारविवेकरहितास्तेषु नरकेषूप-सामीप्येन तद्योग्य कर्मोपादानतया 'यान्ति' गच्छन्ति किम्भूताश्च तत्र गतानां वेदनाः प्रादुष्प्यन्तीत्येतच्चाहं 'पृष्टवानि 'त्ति ॥१॥
टीकार्थ - जम्बू स्वामी ने श्री सुधर्मास्वामी से प्रश्न किया कि भगवन् ! नरक-नारक भूमियाँ किस प्रकार की होती हैं । प्राणी किन कर्मों के आचरण से उनमें उत्पन्न होते हैं । वहाँ उन्हें कैसी वेदना-यातना भोगनी पड़ती है । यो प्रश्न किये जाने पर श्री सुधर्मास्वामी बोले कि तुमने जो प्रश्न पूछा है, वह मैंने भी केवली-अतीत, अनागत, वर्तमान, सूक्ष्म तथा व्यवहित पदार्थों के वेत्ता महर्षि-उग्रतपश्चरणशील, अनुकूल एवं प्रतिकूल उपसर्ग सहिष्णु भगवान श्री महावीर से पहले पूछा था । मैंने जिज्ञासा की थी कि नारक भूमियाँ किस प्रकार के दुःखों से युक्त होती है, मैं यह नहीं जानता । हे मुनीश ! आप केवल ज्ञान से इसे जानते हैं । मुझे बतलाएँ, तथा यह भी कहें कि हित आत्मकल्याण की प्राप्ति और अहित-आत्मपतन के त्याग के ज्ञान से शून्य अज्ञजीव कैसे कर्म कर नरक गामी होते हैं, तथा नरक गत जीवों को कैसी वेदनाएं यातनाएं भोगनी पड़ती है, यह मैंने पूछा था ।
